big issue
Ok so I have the weirdest issue going on. Today I got the car started with a brand new battery. Tuned the carb to perfect specs. Drove it around Ran perfect! And I'm not gonna lie I beat on it a little, and it took it great. Then I drove it around later last night. Made it to my friends house fine. Then I went to drive it home, and it randomly starts choking out on the road. This happens a lot. I get it running real nice, then when I take it somewhere it randomly stops running. I let it sit for about 20 minutes, then it starts. And then repeat cycle. Why does it do this? Anybody else have this issue?

First I would suspect the fuel filter is clogging up, otherwise it will take more diagnosing to figure it
out. Fill us in on any details that may help us understand the car. Mods? History? Pics ? (we love pics). |

Sounds like the carb is picking up sediment in the float bowls and trying to suck the sediment through the jets causing the hesitation you describe. Sounds like it may be time for a carb rebuild.
Also check the plugs to ensure you have the correct NGK BR8EQ plugs installed and make sure there is no corrosion and ensure the electrode on each plug is not rounding over. Start there. |
It could be a bad ignitor since the trouble seems to only happen when hot.

OR-
gas tank innards are shedding rust/gunk into fuel pickup: pump draws gunk into pickup in tank, plugs up pick up or F.FIlter & stalls out. Car sits. Gunk drifts away from pickup. Starts and runs…. rinse, repeat. Mine did this too, esp if gas tank was ½ or less full. Only fix was drain and pull tank, take to a rad shop for a clean out, then reseal tank inside walls with POR15 Gas tank sealer kit. Done. Stu 80GS Alaska |
