Axle seals for GSL-SE?
 

I can't seem to find axle seals for GSL-SE axles. The old axle seems to have the seals ride on the lock collar, but the axle seals I can find seem to be for smaller axles. But it is equally possible I'm an idiot. I found the Federal Mogul number as for 84-85, and I assumed all big-bearing axles the same. Rockauto has the centric 41791004 listed, it is the black one in the photo, and it also seems too small. Does the axle seal not have to ride on the lock collar where it appears to have done previously? Is there a source for GSL-SE axle seals if I don't have the right one?CENTRIC41791004

the Mazda number is 1011-26-154.

National is 710320, FAG Canada is 413 2939 100, BCA is NS7 10320, Beck Arnley is 052-2540, FAG USA is SS2939, SKF is 18862 and Timken is 710320

Seal should ride on the lock collar.

Mazdatrix sells the factory OEM part which is the correct size, obviously. The FSM states NOT to remove the axle seal unless it was leaking, as the likelihood of damaging the new one on installation is pretty high. Better to roll with the known-good seal thats in there, and thats what I chose a few months back when I did rear bearings.

for install, unless you have the right size seal driver, do the following;

put the seal on the axle, install axle, and then when you remove the axle the seal will be installed

A 1213 is a front wheel seal.

The seal actually taps into the axle housing. It shouldn't float on the axle itself. There's a good chance that the seal will pop out when the axle is removed. Install the seal on the housing before the axle is installed. Be sure to grease the seal before you tap it in place and ensure you rub some gear oil on the lip that seals against the bearing to ensure the bearing doesn't snag the seal when installing the axle.

Are you doing the rear bearings at the same time while you're in there? It wouldn't be a bad idea while you're in there already. Be careful with that retaining ring, I screwed that install up my first time doing the rear bearings...never again.
