Am I F*cked?
 

OK, Drove the car last night, go to start it today and I get nothing it started,pulling out of the garage it stops and wont fire. so i check stuff, and the bolt that holds the Dizzy in place has (probably more me than the bolt) stipped out the hole it is in. so the dizzy os just flappen backa nd forthe when i carank the engine.
Im hoping i can got to Auto Zone and pick up a tap, and just re-thread the hole and use a bigger nut. I just need to Know if you guys think this will work or if you think im boned, cause im gunna try i just need some incouragment (unless this is a horible idea and i should just burn the car)

Should work fine. The bolt has no value that I can see other than holding the dizzy tight and seeing how the is a flat peice of metal as a tab.. :bigthumb:

you should be fine. Worst case you can put a stud in there somehow (epoxy or JB weld) and use a nut to tighten it down.

Relax, easy fix. These guys are right, you should have this fixed in no time!

I was reading you're sig and you're '82 sounds nice. Do you have any pics?

To use a bigger bolt, u'll have to make the slot in the dizzy wider too. The front cover I put on the engine I built was the same way, since I work in a machine shop, a fix was relative easy, I just retapped with a metric helicoil tap and installed a helicoil. No drilling was involved. If u like, I can find out what that size tap and helicoil is since I can't remember right off.

Didn't put the name with the pics. How much did that kit cost? Came out nice.

thanks u guys, I ran by auto zone after school, and checked prices, and they have the tap set, so ifigure ill go one bolt size bigger,and i belive, if i can do just one size bigger and it still hold, then i twill fit in the tab.
Im so relieved, even i i have to make the tab bigger, its alot less stress than anything els i can figure

Ok, ive got the tap and stuff,do you think ill need to drill out the hole before hand or not?
A-Z didnt have any studs small enough, or metric, so i have to stick with a bolt unless i can make them into a stud. Any body think this mught work?

I would try to get the tap started without drilling if possible. The old trhreads may help the tap to stay staight. Don't worry too much if you take you're time it will come out okay. As far as the tab,. just use a metal drill bit big enough for the new bolt to pass throught. This will be trickey as I believe it's a slot, but it dosen't have to be perfect. use just need to leave enough metal for the bolt head to grab being careful not to lose the angle of the slot.
Does that make any sense?
