Spent my whole Saturday at the fab shop, lathing up the end bosses for the alt brackets. Glad that's over with! 25 units, good to go. I will probably take everything back for final machining, once the powdercoater tells me how thick the coating will be. Tomorrow, I will probably build a welding jig, so that any mistakes are duplicated faithfully.

He has not set a price yet.

Slammed_GSL 06-26-05 06:57 PM

Blake, what is going to keep the turnbuckle from loosing? Are you putting nuts on the rod end threads? Just wondering. Looks real good buddy, I'll pick mine up instead of shipping.

Max7 06-26-05 07:10 PM

Could I get one plain without paint/powder? eaither way, I want one :D
Can we start prepaying a deposit?

Blake 06-26-05 08:51 PM

Yes, the price is not yet firmed up. Somewhere between $50 and $85, but hopefully at the lower end of the scale. By machining up the end bosses myself, I saved a ton of money, but I still have to account for the CNC lasering, bending, powdercoating, hardware, tensioner, etc...plus my investment of time and money. Hope no one thinks I'm doing this as charity. :) My partner, Rob, and I need to sit down and talk about it on Monday.

This thread was to determine demand, whetten appetites and -- most importantly -- get feedack on all the options before us. Apparently, some people are really anxious to get their hands on them and we appreciate the urgency. Please be patient. I am just as anxious to sell them to you! Those that are willing to buy just the basic bracket and tie up their own loose ends (tentioner, belt, front cover AC stud spacers, bolts), will be accomodated first. Don't worry, I will give you all the necessary info, like how to modify the stock tensioner and what belt to buy. Everyone else needs to just sit tight while we wrap up the final details.

No deposits yet. I don't want to turn this into a group buy sort of thing until I have permission from Ryan and open a thread for that purpose in the appropriate GB section. Right now, this is still just an informational thread that I don't want killed for wanton display of naked greed. :) In the future I may want to do something similar for other potential products with unproven demand. Stay tuned!

Yes, there will be a jam nut, which will prevent the barrel from rotating loose.

Bteets9914 06-27-05 02:23 PM

Both my cars have AC so if you are planning on making a relocation bracket which would bolt onto the powersteering spot i know i would buy two from you. I just don't wanna lose the AC ;)

Let us all know if you are going to make one available for the PS location!

I'll take one as well when you have it ready.

Blake 06-27-05 07:41 PM

I ordered up the fasteners today and should have them by Wednesday or Thursday. Their computer was being backed-up, so I won't know the price until tomorrow -- kind of scary ordering large quantities of metric button- and socket-head fasteners with weird thread pitches (for the size) with a blank check. I also had to order them by the box (unspecified quantities), not the unit, so God knows what I'll be stuck with. Until that cost is known, I can't firm up the price.

Still in search of the perfect belt size, but very, very close. I'll try another one tonight and hopefully, that will be it. At least initially, we will not include the belts but, rather, provide buyers with the recommended belt size and Gates part number. If you are running non-stock pulleys, the size may be different, so I won't force you to buy something that may not work for you. If you buy locally, they usually let you try a belt and then exchange it if it won't work.

Waiting on the rod ends for the tensioner assembly. When they come in, I will fabricate the turnbuckles. Heavily leaning towards offering the tensioner separately, so you could just modify a stock tensioner if you wanted to save money.

Got permission from Ryan to run a Group Buy. I will start the thread tomorrow or Wednesday, summing up the key points and setting the prices. When that is up, I will post a link to it here and vice-versa.

That's all for now...

I thought he already said you could not use it with AC.

It goes in the AC spot.

I'll be coming up to Seattle sometime in the next week or two. Not sure quite when, but soon. We could meet up then, or you can come down to Portland and I can give you the Grand Tour of Pineapple Racing.

I modified one bracket for the 83-85 12A with air/water oil cooler, so I could see what it would take and test it on my daily driver. Had to grind a bit, but no big deal. This is to accomodate that hard oil line that wraps so closely around the bottom front cover stud. I will incorporate the change in the next batch, once these have sold out. Until then, I can either provide a grinding template or offer the service at an extra charge ($10). I need to know *before* they go to powder coating, unless you don't mind them being touched up with ordinary paint.

jayroc 06-29-05 07:07 PM

I'm interested in one. Any update on the group buy and price?

Not much to report. I welded up the parts yesterday and spent some time today grinding off the weld splatter and bead blasting them. Next, I have to drill out and tap the upper tensioner boss. After that, they will go out to powdercoating. Still waiting on the rod ends for the tensioner. I did get the M8x1.25x30 bolts for the tensioners, but the M10x1.25x25 and M12x1.5x25 bolts for fastening to the front cover and front side housing have not arrived yet. I'll call the fastener supplier tomorrow to at least get the pricing, so I can calculate our costs and come up with the retail price. *IF* my estimates are right, we can offer the basic bracket for $55 each and the rod-end tensioners for another $15 each. For the group buy, I will knock $5 off the bracket price. 25 brackets and 10 tensioners will be available for the group buy. It will take some time to get more rod ends from my supplier, but I figure there will be quite a few people who would want to save some money by modifying the stock flat-bar tensioner anyway. I can offer belts too, but it's probably better if you just go buy your own locally. The belt I am using is a 3/8" x 37-5/8" (9.5/10mm x 955mm) Gates XL 7370.

I am currently running the bracket on my daily driver and have had no problems.

Say the word go and I am in for 2 with the Nice Tensioner.

jayroc 06-29-05 10:13 PM

Yeah, I am definitely in for that price, too. Both the bracket and tensioner.
dibbs. heh

SS124A 06-29-05 10:44 PM

I have dibs on one of the first batch with dual rod end tensioner.
