13brew turbo project complete (almost)

I got my car back a few weeks ago from mazsport and I love it. 13brew, TII tranny, custom drive shaft and exhaust etc.... This this thing is fast. It hasnt been dynoed yet but after I put the 1000 miles on it to break it in, it will be tuned on the dyno and I will post the results. We are shooting for 380hp to the wheels. I cant even begin to list all the mods, the invoice is like 12 pages long. I think it will make a great sleeper.

Modified85 07-08-06 08:36 AM

thanks, I like it.

Dan_s_young 07-08-06 08:52 AM

Looking awesome! Did you get the oil filler neck custom welded so it would go around the IC piping or did you buy one like that (if so from where?)?

Modified85 07-08-06 08:57 AM

I just went and looked at the oil filler neck and it is not a fabricated piece, it looks stock but from what generation I dont know.

To freaking sexy. I kinda wish I didn't mind running the 4x110 bolt pattern. Just sold the set of ROH's I had.

Your car is insperation. I have one on the road and one I'm trying to get to DD status and look as good as that.

To nice man.

vipernicus42 07-08-06 09:58 AM

That car is absolutely amazing! I want it.

Hyper4mance2k 07-08-06 10:28 AM

What radiator is that? An how was fittment?

Modified85 07-08-06 10:45 AM

The radiator is a Ron Davis. Fittment is good as it is custom made for the first gen. Here is a link. The 4X110 is going away soon to do the big brake swap and new ford rear end. These wheels will be for sale towards the end of the year.

craigw1 07-08-06 11:24 AM

must congratulate you. Great looking car, and the 13b-rew looks like it came in there from the factory

Can I ask you a question though :

You've obviously spent a lot of cash here on this conversion. And like you say, you're shooting for 380hp. But at then end of the day this is a first gen from the 80's that came out std with like 100hp. So the chasis, suspension, brakes, steering, differential etc were not designed and built to handle like 4x the original power output. If you really wanted that sort of power why didn't you get something like an m3 or something. Or if you wanted to stay with rotary get a 3rd gen.

Look don't get me wrong...i too have a first gen, and love it too bits, and have also considered turbo route....but then when u look at the whole package and the safety angle, one just gets too nervous and has too many questions.

Directfreak 07-08-06 12:19 PM

wow. total sleeper. They did a great job.
It used to be grey?

Modified85 07-08-06 12:33 PM

I understand your point about that much power in a car that wasnt designed for it but the drive train and soon the rear end will all be built to handle it and we are also putting the big brakes on it and the suspension is getting some more attention. The real reason why I did this is that it is fun to drive and blows peoples minds. I love to smoke s2000's and 350z's, bmw's other rx-7's including some third gens. and basically everything else on the road. They go home confused. By the way I am planning on getting a third gen and having two 13brew turbo powered cars.

gonzz 07-08-06 12:37 PM

Nice work.. any porting and what turbo is installed?

borinquen7 07-08-06 12:52 PM

DAMN that looks sweet, Lucky you , Listen if you don't mind how much those a project like that run you,,, Just curios, to see if I will ever be able to afford sumsing like that... Looks bad ass

z-beater 07-08-06 12:59 PM

Looking good. What turbo are you running and at what boost do you expect to hit 380 at?

Most people don't realize how much fun a 1st gen Rx-7 is to drive. The chassis may be pretty "active" with that kind of power, but it's ahelluva lot more fun to drive at any speed than an M3 or a 3rd gen. Driving satisfaction is heavily influenced by vehicle feedback, which is lacking in most modern sports cars compared to a 1st gen.

Modified85 07-08-06 03:52 PM

Yes this car use to be charcoal grey. I think the titanium grey makes it look a little more modern. I dont know exactly what sort of boost level it is going to take to get to 380. I left the design up to my mechanic and he knows what my goal is. My goal is 300 and he told me when I picked it up that he thinks it will dyno to 380. We will see. Anyway during the break in period there are low boost levels, and fuel rich, and I can already tell how stong this thing is. Also yes its got a street port.

ChunkyMonkey 07-08-06 04:06 PM

but what turbo??? Also, about how much do you think you've invested to get the motor dropped in and running? I know you can pick up the motor for about 2k, but I'm just curious of the cost on the fab stuff and labor. Not counting the suspension and bigger brakes. I'll be starting either the 20b or the 13b-rew swap within six months, I know the REW is cheaper, but just trying to get an idea.

I call dibs on the wheels! You gotta let me know when these are up for sale

KeloidJonesJr. 07-08-06 04:13 PM

It is looking good. Did you make the mounts yourself?

I have spent like 9k on my eng swap project and I'm not even done.. around another 2,500.00 and i'll be good..

ChunkyMonkey 07-08-06 04:34 PM

nice....but is that with other mods and such(aftermarket parts/bolt-ons), or just for the placement of the stock motor and getting it running? I have someone who will be sponsoring all the suspension, brakes, etc. I just have to do the motor install myself.

gonzz 07-08-06 04:42 PM

It depends on which engine you go with and what power level you want.. Stock TII swap for like 3k i would think.. the aftermarket stuff is where it gets pricey.. Also if you are doing a rebuild/porting on it.. add 2,500 or so to that price

ChunkyMonkey 07-08-06 04:43 PM

delete....wrong thread.....

Modified85 07-08-06 04:50 PM

Well by the time you pay for the 13brew engine, TII tranny, custom drive shaft, custom 3" stainless exhaust with 3 stainless borlas, custom down pipe, cast iron exhaust manifold, turbo, blow off valve, waste gate, custom 2.5" charge tubes, intercooler, custom mounts to make thigs fit, rebuild the 13brew and street port and polish, microtech computer, rebuild TII tranny and modify gear shift housing to fit perfectly in to the first gen, modify fuel injection system, 850cc injectors, flywheel, clutch, fabricate a new engine wiring harness, put a sump in the gas tank with new fuel pump and custom stainless fuel lines, battery relocation kit, ceramic coat alot of the stuff and pay for a talented person to design and install it all your looking at 18-22k. I dont know much about the turbo other then it is made by precisionturbo.

twinkletoes 07-08-06 04:53 PM

Man, that is sweet. That makes me want one. lol. Nice looking car too man. Update us for sure when you get it dynoed. Thats awesome.

pjr 07-08-06 05:22 PM

Superb. Give it to me!

And where else, but southern Florida, Land of the HiPo Rotary.

You and I sould get together and run down to one of their events and show them what a turboFB is all about. We could toy with Directfreak but I think he may still have alittle on us.

Driftwood 08-24-06 04:01 PM

Nice looking ride. I am planning on doing a simular swap soon. Need to find a good 1st gen shell first (and buy my new house with a shop it's being built now). This project looks expensive. Is it much cheaper to go with a TII S5? Really wanted to take this route but i hope to go 1st Gen turbo for about 10K. The cost of the motor does not seem that much more expensive. You can get a front clip on ebay for like $3,500. This is a project i hope takes some time i plane to do all of the work myself. Can anybody offer an opinion on the cost diffrences between the 2.

Thanks

twinkletoes 08-24-06 04:12 PM

I'll trade ya, lol.

diabolical1 08-24-06 07:57 PM

absolutely gorgeous!!! would love to see that thing run. :) i wish you all the best and lots of fun.

quick question though, did they not address the exhaust when they built it or are pics just old?

craigw1 08-25-06 02:39 PM

this is arguably the best first gen i've seen posted here.

the paint job is immaculate

no expense has been spared on the turbo upgrade...18-22k he said

(perhaps if i could be so bold to suggest throttle bodies rather than the original 3rd gen FI setup ?)

it is the ultimate sleeper

now lets see that dyno sheet

Modified85 08-25-06 06:10 PM

Thanks for all the nice things you have said about my car. I have to give a lot/most of the credit to scott over at mazsport for doing this drive train swap. The drive train swap was done after the car was painted and they didnt put a single mark on it. I know thats not the correct order to do this kind of work but I didnt think of dumping all that money in to the drive train untill after I saw how gorgeous the paint turned out. I am taking the car back soon to get the final tuning and dyno done I wil, l post results later. These things take time.

No_Rotor_RX7 08-26-06 12:07 AM

very veryyy nice! but umm... one suggestion and i'm sure you will realize this once tuned but, don't waste your time with s2000's, 350z's, etc..etc... your prey will now be 600hp supras, vettes, porsche, and others of such stature ;)

hell yes, welcome to the powerful side of life WOOWOOOO!

Naegleria_Fowleri 08-26-06 12:35 AM

That is a really really beautiful looking car. Another car that I am hoping to see videos of.

twinkletoes 10-06-06 01:37 PM

So whats the update on modified85. Is he done?
