12a in gsl-se

Does anyone no if i will have any clearance issues putting a 12a block in a gsl-se...?

I can't imagine you would have any problems doing it as the car was available with a 12a for both 84 and 85. You will probably need all 12a stuff however, like the driveshaft, and you would go back to running a low pressure fuel pump if you are running a carb.

the gsl-se motor mount crossmember is different then the 12a ones.... that why i am asking

To put a 13b in a 12a car you can notch the rear of the bolt holes in the cross bar that bolts to the front of the engine. To go 12a into 13b you can notch the front of the bolt holes. This is not the best solution by any means, but it will get everything to bolt up.

You do not need to change any of the tranny or driveline parts.

Get 3/4" plate aluminum and longer bolts or three plates of 1/4" to make a spacer adapter of about 20mm thick. This fits between the front cover and the front mount bar.

thanks 4 the info . i will just put the 12a crossmember in....

Just remember to test fit before you make anything final. The main issue here is where the oil pan ends up. You do have some wiggle room but once the steering arm starts to touch the oil pan, it will start to wear through with use.

just get the 12a plate...everyone is making it seem like its soooo difficult, its as easy as 123...you would either need to regulate the f.p alot or get one for a carb...

what the hell are you talk about..? i see i am not the only one drinking tonight..

The engine cradle cross member is what's different between the 12A/13B, not the mounting bar. If you have that part, it's a direct bolt in.

now the question is why would you want to install a 12A in a GSL-SE? SE blocks are out there and if you plan on going through all the trouble, why not install the correct engine? remember, the fuel pumps are different, as is the fuel pump relay. there will be a lot of wiring not used and you may have to install a 12A harness and ecu so that you will have the correct emissions setup. the 12A oil pressure and coolant temp sender wiring is located in a seperate harness whereas the SE's is integrated into the main harness. food for though..

well to answer your question . #1 its my friends car and he has budget . #2 he has three 12a engines #3 84 to 85 13b 6port in new york is gold ..ny.... we dont worry about emissions any more .....the car was carbed already ...
