10mpg wtf

so my 83 is only getting 10mpg is this normal ive only had the car for 3 days im going to give it a good once over tonight my trailing igniter is down at the moment could that be part of the problem?

nick812 11-02-06 05:40 PM

what other mods do you have done? A was getting 10-12 with my dellorto and a holley fuel pump and headers on a street port.

kapn krunch 11-02-06 05:44 PM

as far as im aware its bone stock

trochoid 11-02-06 05:50 PM

Not normal, for either one of you. Trailing ignitor makes a small difference in mpg, not 50% though.

Tell us more about the car, how it runs, history, etc.

Naegleria_Fowleri 11-02-06 05:53 PM

Whoa. I joke about getting 10 mpg a lot, but never have I even came close to actually getting 10 mpg.

Definitely fill us in on how its running and stuff.

kapn krunch 11-02-06 05:56 PM

well im not to sure of its history but it would appear the motor was rebuilt sometime in 2003 judging by the stamp on the side of the housing. its got kind of a lumpy idle but is smooth when your driving it has newer ngk plugs and wires i was going to pop the cap off and see if they need to be replaced probly needs a new fuel filter too.

kapn krunch 11-02-06 06:10 PM

im planning on putting a msd blaster hvc{pn# 8222}coil into tonight any thing i should know before i do that?

OnlyOnThurs 11-02-06 06:13 PM

Lumpy idle??? I thought all rotaries had that lol. Mine does and she runs great (and shes stock)

kapn krunch 11-02-06 07:38 PM

so the leading coil is the closest to the head light right i was jsut looking at my dist cap and the first coils on the spot marked l and the second coil is on the spot labled t would that affect my cars milage if thats the incorrect way to be set up?

trochoid 11-02-06 08:20 PM

I posted in your other thread, but, when the engine is running, pulling the trailing plug wire will make little to no difference in idle. Pull a leading one make a major difference, often killing the engine.

my poor opinion
cap
rotor
fuel filter
rape the carb with carb cleaner and hit it with a hammer
could be something clogged in the idle circuit

have any glowing cats yet???

clean85owner 11-05-06 10:50 PM

I calculate everytime I fill up, and I average between 15.1mpg and 15.8mpg.

S5 N/A streetported with RB header/presilencer and a Mikuni 44. Needs to be tuned, I know...

kapn krunch 11-06-06 07:49 PM
