0-60 formula ( proven +/- 1 second at worst )

weight of car in kilogrammes
0-60 time = ---------------------------
maximum bhp of car * 0.9

The sight I found used this formula versus a long list of cars with known results and most were within a few tenths.

680 rwhp should be a 3-4 second car if he can hook up.

i don't understand this really...

so if i have a fb....approx 1050 kg's? or 1100

horsepower at flywheel is 220 at wheels is around 180

what would my 0-60 be?

nick

DAVID GRIMES 12-09-04 10:47 PM

1100/(220x.9)
=1100/198
=5.555 seconds

So your car should be within the 4.5 to 6.5 0-60 range ( if you can hook up )

DAVID GRIMES 12-09-04 10:54 PM

Mine
1000/(180x.9)
1000/144
=6.99

I'm actually in the low sevens ( reaction time, driving skills, a little break of traction )

nick1 12-09-04 11:02 PM

hehe I WIN! LOL we'll see when i actually recieve my new car!!! :S

i will be running 205/40/17's, and the car has a torsen diff...

do you thinik i can do 5.5 sec?

im getting excited more and more for my new car!!!

nick

DAVID GRIMES 12-09-04 11:08 PM

Yes. Maybe better.

I'm lighter than you, though ( fiberglass wideboby, hood, hatch, etc ) and I want to run low 5's with a supercharger / holley 650 and a big ring and pinion change.

QuagmireMan 12-09-04 11:13 PM

this formula would not work for my old 305 truck

QuagmireMan 12-09-04 11:14 PM

that had to have been the slowest V8 ever made. Other than the drink.

DAVID GRIMES 12-10-04 12:53 AM

I just calculated a 1979 stepside chevy with a stock 250 in-line 6 and it came to about 16 seconds 0-60. That's probably in the ballpark, too.

jays83gsl 12-10-04 02:01 AM

But, how does that figure in stuff like tires, gear ratios, and stuff like that? As far as I know, tires can make an easy second depending on the tire type (unless that's the one second you were referring to?)

kevinbtz 09-07-05 05:47 PM

1100/(350x.9) = 3.492

I wish i could hook up.

$100T2 09-07-05 07:22 PM

LOL my goal for rwhp would put me at 2.99.

Shane79 09-07-05 07:38 PM

Actually, the next biggest factor after peak horsepower and weight is transmission. An automatic will add about a second the average car's 0-60. A stopwatch in hand and your speedometer would give you a more accrate result than this formula.

FB II 09-08-05 01:57 AM

953/(260*.9) = 4.0

again.... traction would be nice :(

what would be better is a 60 - 120mph calculator (what most of my highway races are)
:D

kc3414 09-10-05 12:55 AM

Highway races?? naughty, naughty... :nono:

FB II 09-10-05 01:26 AM

lol, safer than 0 - 60 cause atleast on the highway i don't get sideways :p:
