what kind of car is this?!

so we moved into a shop and this thing was across the way. ive seen a TON of exotic and rare cars (the montery historics is local), but ive never seen one of these.

i peeked inside and there are no numbers/badges or ANYTHING that would ID it. and its just the body, no frame/engine interior

it is RHD, and looks english to me, maybe late 1950's early 60's, but its not an MG/Triumph/Austin/Aston/Jaguar

so WTF is it? there's no wrong (or right!) answer here, i don't know what it is either

RX-7 Chris 11-07-10 09:50 PM

I think it is an old AC but I could be wrong

kenn_chan 11-07-10 10:23 PM

Maybe a variant of the Sunbeam ? (think sunbeam tiger) : a small english made, MGB sized car with small block ford V8 came out same time frame as the original cobra did.

JoeNoble 11-07-10 10:50 PM

idk but it needs a rotary

mazdaverx713b 11-07-10 10:59 PM

it really does look like an old AC.. maybe with a hint of Corvette..not so sure though..

edit: the more i look a the pictures, it almost reminds me of a 50's era Studebaker..

BlackWorksInc 11-08-10 12:44 AM

Reminds me of an old 50's - 60's Maserati

RotoricanNY 11-08-10 09:09 AM

I agree....looks Italian to me. My thought was 50's Ferrari.

Nik da Greek 11-08-10 10:19 AM

Arrrgh, should know this, it's so tantalising. Sure I've seen one before but just can't put my finger on it....that rear screen's so distinctive, looks a lot like a Jensen 541 but the front's wrong and it doesn't have the fender strakes. Front end looks more like a Sunbeam or maybe Bristol? Grrrr, got a mission now lol.....

mazdaverx713b 11-09-10 11:59 AM

are you thinking that it may be a kit car?

Mr_Miles 11-09-10 12:13 PM

I'm voting it's a modified 56(i'm really betting it's this one), 57, 58 studebaker. I know it's not an exact match, but it's pretty damn close. with all that bondo you see there who knows?

Why not? Spunky little thing like that? Rotary would make it go zoom zoom. :D

I was thinking that too, but it appears to be a metal body? Kit Cars are usually Fiberglass?

DivinDriver 11-09-10 05:23 PM

I know this is like, out there... but have you considered walking across the street and asking?

j/k um that's the fun part. so the space its in, used to be a shop. they closed and the shell came outside so they could clean up, and then its gone, and now the building is a core workout place....

so i cant!

RotaryEvolution 11-18-10 12:35 PM

i still say it's a morretti but it's been modified a little so it's hard to say. as a side note, it is very difficult to find pictures of some of the different models they produced since they were all hand built, low run, italian cars from that era. but you can see too many similarities between some of the pictures i did come up with for it to be coincidental.

i just can't seem to find one of those late 60's early 70's pictures of models possibly with a longer wheelbase. the roadsters had a longer wheelbase and larger rear wings but nothing with the 2 combined into one model/pic.
