What have you guys paid for starters?
I called around to a few places today, and the prices blew me away. I was expecting somewhere in the $100 range.
The local Mazda dealership want's $177 with the core, and NAPA wants $270 and you get a $20 discount with the core. The other shop I called couldn't even get one. |
$80 something with a $60 core charge at Benett (sp?) auto supply.
Quite a few of them are under $100 at Rockauto.com |
Do you have Autozones up there? They are $70 after the core return.
No Autozones or O'Rillies, or Advance etc.
I don't know what they are quoting you at Napa because here are the choices from their website. www.napaonline.com They also give you a discount if you have a AAA towing card.

Yeah i just got one for 70 bucks after core from napa!
napa.com and napa.ca are completely different. Napa in canada sucks and overprices everything. Also they don't carry most of the parts listed in napa.com and if they do it's the most expensive ones with a markup in price. Canadian napa = :icon_tdow :icon_tdow :icon_tdow
Get someone state side to hook yah up! Rockauto is right down the road from me buy about an hour! but i think they ship to canada!
Yeah, you can't even search for parts on napa.ca. Napa's stuff is usually pretty pricey, and sometimes they cant even get what you want.
There's a good "mom and pop" mechanic shop around here that I like to go to, and they can usually get what I want for cheap and fast. But they had no sources on starters. |
i can get you one from advance with a discount, 20%. let me know.
try an alternator shop
You can get one from the pick-n-pull and rebuild it yourself if you doubt it, but ussually its liek $30-40 at the junkyard...
There are no pick and pull style junk yards around here. And they usually crush cars that are older than like 10 or so years. I bet if I call all the junk yards in my province and ask if they have any first generation RX-7's, they'd laugh at me.
I have 2 starters, one that I know is toast and the other has a busted solenoid. So I may buy a solenoid. If not I might have to take you up on your offer aws140, thats really kind. Might end up sending you a money order with a little extra something for your time. |
all i ask is that you cover the cost of the starter and the shipping
i JUST bought one from napa saturday! its a nice bosch starter. i paid $86 with tax for the thing. there was a $60 core on it but i turned in a ragged out burnt up one that i had. it works very well. i'm pleased with it.
Seriously, an alternator shop. Itll be like 120 and you get some back for core.
I dont know what area you are in otherwise i would do a superpages search for you |
I've gotten lucky at the local pick-n-pull. i always go treasure hunting and buy for the future. Last year I scored a factory rebuilt alternator and on another trip a rebuilt starter. I had a Saturn i was selling and scored new pads for $2, you just never know.........
About 5 years ago I scored a racing beat header and presilencer for my 12a for $15 there as well.
take it to an alternator/starter rebuild shop. they will rebuild it for you and it should cost no more than 45-60 dollars.
I can order them thru my work(AutoZone......hssss aws140 hssss LOL), bu I can't get my discount on things we don't stock so it sucks

You can also get one through blackdragonauto.com for $109.95 and the core value is only another $10.00 on top of that.
They also ship to Canada, I believe their shipping would be around $23.00 |
i payed 140cdn but with 10 for core. its the newest thing on my car.
I have a starter for you
If you need a starter I've got a bosch starter purchased at napa. Its new, and was never installed, 90 dollars (u.s. dollars) and its yours. That would include shipping, hell if you let me know within about 30 minutes I can have it in the mail today, and you can pay me once you get it if you want. Just let me know.
