scored some rare stuff
I just got home and am going through it, but found some stuff that is SERIOUSLY cool. STU and Rotary Dude might not even have scene a few of these items. I went to a yard sale and a guy had a bunch of vintage rx stuff. I ended up buying everything. What was really cool though was that he had all kinds of Mazda factory stuff and paperwork. In quickly breezing through I have found copies of
1. The original mazda itinerary for the first time they entered daytona. The dates they shipped the cars japan, and every step leading to the race. Diagrams of the track. and even an itemized list of everything they were taking 2. The forms mazda filled out to enter the first daytona race. Photos of the all aspects of the car and signed by mazda's Doctor of engineering. 3. The forms Mazda filled out with IMSA to enter the car and show that was eligable for racing in 1978. They cited that production started on the car in 1/78 and that by April they had produced 8000 units. They didnt even list rx7 on the form, just car sa22c. Have boxes of big box of this stuff to go through, lots of mid 70s racing beat stuff. Rx2 & Rx3 competition preparation manuals. Petty engineering catalogue for the 1st gens. Mazda Motorsports price and parts list. I am not sure what is on it, but original rx7 microfiche? It might take awhile, but would like to get some of this stuff scanned. |
Scan it up and send it over!

lol you stopped by his house huh? Thats cool, a few of us thought about going up there, but I dont have the money to spare. Congrats man.
For those who wonder - the guy was a mazda tech, wanted to dump off all his rotary related stuff. Jeez, I'd like to see the weber manual. I dunno how to take it apart without breaking it! |
Oh, I'd glad to hear you got it as well. When he said Chris was supposed to stop by, I thought it was a different Chris. Glad a collector of rare parts got it rather than someone who would sell for a boat load.
|
Yes, he was a Mazda Tech, but got this stuff from someone had been collecting stuff for years that was a tech also. I guess this was just the tip of the iceberg of what that guy had.
He wasnt sure of many of the parts and what they went to, he did know the stuff was rare. Actually, Chris did contact him. I just beat him there. The REPU will be back in Vegas and @ its new home at Ben's shop soon. RotaryDude, on some of the papers submitted for IMSA, it shows one of the cars and declares it VIN #500025 |

Nice score!!!
did he have any old school mazda signage or banners I am looking for something along those lines. |
Ive been helping Ben around his shop the last few days. Saw one repu, can't wait to see yours. You should show up around scr forum from time to time man, we hardly hear from you!!
|
Dude - What a treasure find! Thanks for posting the Daytona itinerary. Very cool bit of history along with the VIN number.
|
Hi Evilwankel,
Yeah, I stopped by today. Cool you were able to give him a hand. I might also have a front iron here in the next few days. The Red REPU that you saw is Bens. I had it prior, but Ben wanted it and I traded it to him for work towards putting my yellow 77 together. I used to live about 30 mins from Bens shop in Yuba City. That truck and Mine were a fixture at his place for quite some time. With pics of the two posted on the old school section of this site. Ben will be a great resource and an asset to the Vegas rotary community. I will start to be more active soon, miss meeting up with the crowds and wolfing down Sonic or In n Out. I have just been slammed at work pretty much this entire year and it seems on the road more then home. The REPU will be coming back, and I will be bringing another old school rotary to the vegas scene in the next few months in the way of a 71 rx2. We can meet up at Bens sometime if you want to check the Weber stuff. |
choop - unless you have a passion for hanging onto the NOS RX2 parts, I highly recommend you post them up on Ebay.AU - that's the AUSTRALIAN Ebay site. They will pay absolutely INSANE prices for this stuff - I'm talking double, triple + what you'll likely get in the US. I know this first hand...
Look forward to some PICS of some of this great, historic swag- Stu Aull 80GS Alaska |
And the choopacabra raises the bar. Now we await Smeagol's move. :egrin:
|

I will try to get of the stuff up soon to share. have been burried at work these past few months, (my department only 60% staffed). I know at work it is set up that they can be scanned and sent to my office in PDF. I will give that a shot today.
Thanks |
