My new toy

I just bought a second 7 today. I have a 79' that has been my project for the last few years. I'm getting close to being done and did not plan on getting another, but its hard to pass up a good deal. The car i got was from a guy my dad has known for years. He bought his 80' back in 84 and has kept it garaged its entire life. The car has 126xxx miles and has sat for 6 years. I went to pick it up today, and the guy could not find his title but let me go ahead and get it to start working on it. He has to apply for a lost title so i cant take it out yet on the road, but still can do alot of work on it before i need to do that. Once i got it home i checked the fluids, and made sure the engine was not locked up. Once that checked out i put a battery in it gave it a drink of gas down the carb and first bump of the starter it cranked. It will idle with gas being dumped down its throat, but i have to get the tank flushed out and a new filter. I hope to have it cleaned up and running by the end of this weekend. I'm not sure what im going to do with this one yet, time will tell. Here are some pics of my $500 80' all original, 3rd owner car.

Congratulations on a rare find! I wish my old SA was in that good a shape. Glad you went ahead and picked her up. I don't think you will be disapointed with it. If you need a fuel pump, or that carb built, just let me know.

That is unbelievable!! What a nice looking car. It looks like the tires and wheels are worth $500.

OMG...I just got my 10th post too!!!

impulsive-rx7 07-10-08 09:17 PM

Wow! Amazing shape! It would be nice to have one that doesn't require a complete restoration. Good find.

Buy the rebuild kit. Take the carb off. Bring it to me. Pick up in about a week. Put carb back on. Be amazed at the new performance. Sound good?

Yeah i have a 79 that has a rebuilt streetport, and mechanical is pretty well off on the up grades but the interior is GONE. I figured if i could not get it running or if the engine was junk i could atleast take the 2 am make one good one. But after getting the car busted off i think i will be spending time getting them both done.

im pretty excited about this project just because of where i have to start. yeah its fun bringing one back from the beyond but to start with something this well off to begin with is nice. The only interior issue is on the driver seat there is a little separation at the stitches in one area and the dash is cracked a bit but other then that its CLEAN

How sweet is that? You are a lucky man, indeed!

The stereo's not original, but then, who's is? Nicely fitted and cleanly installed.

datsun1200 07-10-08 10:22 PM

Man that's clean,What are the plans for the motor. Is it going to stay stock,or what.A set of 5letter wheel's would look nice, but that's my upen..great find

RXnos1200 07-10-08 10:25 PM

hmmmmm why can't I see the pics? Just boxes with little x's

robs_seven 07-11-08 04:48 AM

IM not sure if i will leave it stock or not, depends if the engine in it has good compression or not. If it does i will most likely leave it stock for now but if it appears to need some attention then im pulling my streetport 12a out of the 79 and putting it in this one. Then i will take the 80 engine and build it for my 79. it is up in the air right now, but i will keep it posted

that is one nice looking car, man. nice deal picking it up for 500 bucks.
those rims look really nice on the car too.

mazdaverx713b 07-11-08 11:12 AM

that is a beautiful car that, imo, deserves to be preserved. pick up a set of the original waffle wheels and new tires and do some good maintenance on the car and keep it original. its a beautiful example of an SA!!!

Rogue_Wulff 07-11-08 12:10 PM

Nice find. If it were me, I'd just do what it takes to make it run as good as it looks, and leave it at that. An unmolested SA is not easy to come by these days, and that one is nearly all factory original, aside from the radio and wheels.
Treat it right, and it should make for a nice driver, with several years of life left in it.

kutukutu1 07-11-08 12:36 PM

Great find, good you did not pass it up, if i would had find it and had the money i would had bought it as well. Great condition. Try and strip the carb to it's bare minimum, they run better and they iddle at around 700rpm when well tuned, with all the emission stuff of, unless you need to pass a smog test in your state. but that's what i suggest. Congratulations again on the find.:icon_tup:

Jeezus 07-11-08 12:44 PM

That is one awesome car... I am jealous, now you have 2 SA's.

THat cig lighter looks bent though?

t_g_farrell 07-11-08 03:36 PM

The car looks great Robby.

You need 4 waffle rims restored like this to put on it :)

I'll trade you my exc. condition waffles with good tires for your rims... those rims are SWEET.

That is a super score for $500

workinprogress80 07-11-08 04:32 PM

hey now, i call first dibs on those rims!

'87 turbo II 07-11-08 05:19 PM

I agree!!! What a great find. You can buy any old first gen and have your way with it. This is a find. I know because I am trying to find one!!!

robs_seven 07-11-08 08:23 PM

I have a set of waffle wheels take were stock on my 79 but these must be after market. I have never seen any like these. they are American racing wheels, and they still have the center cap.

i got it cranked tonight, just could not keep it running long or sombody would have called the fire department. WOW the SMOKE, but cranks easy and idles nice. hope to get the smoke cleared tomorrow but im not sure.
