Where did you get this info from? I hot lapped Pocono all day with a set of R888. Very consistant tire and I did not notice any fading by the end of the day.

I must agree there also, I haven't seen anyone at the track complain about this issue also, but I have read a few posts. Now it could be dependent on the track, maybe on tracks that are in really hot regions would be a different thing then cooler tracks?

Wow, gorgeous wheels man. They'll look awesome on your car!

.

we havent had that problem, in fact for us the R888 is better than the RA1, in any way you'd care to measure, especially wear.

we set ours up according to the guidelines that Toyo has on the website, and verified it with tire temps.

everyone else seems to think they should be running like 50psi, which feels better on lap 1, but by lap 5 they are overcooked....

that is what is going on in OUR paddock

Just lots of complaints from the Spec Miata and Spec E30 guys. You may be right about the track and climate differences. I heard a lot of complaints about them when I was down at Sebring (high temps and a fast track).

I have not run on R888 aside from some non competitive time in a Spec E30 on a go cart track. Obviously they did not loose grip in that enviroment.

Rumor is all the complaints are why they wont be running them next iin Spec Miata next year, your results may very. See the link.

yeah we haven't really had a hot track day this year. and despite the weird setups we keep hearing about from other people, everyone has been faster this year?

whatever, not like the Ra1 was bad or anything

HadaGSL-SE 08-09-09 09:34 PM

He probably can't go wrong either way. Just putting out some other options. Its not like you can win a HPDE anyway. From his mods (and mine) it looks like we would probably be way outclassed in Time Trials or whatever we were getting into. =)

dj55b 08-10-09 01:20 AM

All i can say is that anything is better than all season tires right now :). As far as winning anything, I'm not really that competitive right now just going out for personal best times. Althought coming first would be nice, I just know that some people are a bit more extreme than me, besides this is my daily driver also so there's always something that I pretty much have to compromise. If i wanted to all out win, I would fully gut a car and worry nothing but adding more grip and power.

HadaGSL-SE 08-10-09 06:37 AM

Its a nice car from what I have seen and the wheels should really set it off. You will be amazed going to R-Comps from all seasons.

I was hoping on driving up to Zoomfest to see it as I am interested in some ITB's in the future. I didn't want to drive up to Atlanta if I wasn't going to run the track and I didn't 100% trust the car and myself to make it back to start a new job on Monday.

Post pics when you mount the rims.

If you had sent me a pm or something I could of passed by your place. After the track I drove all around in florida from Orlando-tampa-naples-miami beach- daytona beach.

what are you running? or is it just a track day?

my car doesnt fit any rule set very well either.... its just for fun

HadaGSL-SE 08-10-09 02:02 PM

That would have been fun. I ran an autocross that weekend instead of running at Zoomfest. You would of had a free place to stay in Daytona.

I just run HPDE, AutoX and might start running some time trials for fun. It is modified in such a way that would outclasses it in anything I could enter on a regional or national level.

dj55b 08-10-09 06:16 PM

I normally do lapping days and time attacks. In time attack with the semi slicks i'll be moved up a class but doesn't matter too much. I'm not very big on autox but if there's something near and i'm free i'll try to go to it.

Kentetsu 08-10-09 06:50 PM

Too bad you couldn't make it over for the Lansing event. We had a blast despite the torential downpours on Saturday and the blistering heat on Sunday. We ended up with 7 or 8 rotaries each day.

I would really like to check your car out in person one of these days. :)

dj55b 08-11-09 01:25 AM

Just cross the border ... you're not that far away :). Or try to come out to our London meet that I'm doing on september the 4th.

I forgot to book off that day to come down with chris.

Well finally got the rubber in and the tires mounted on the car! Man do these tires grip though and they're not even broken in yet. My one test route on my old tires I was able to do 80kph and that was pretty much pushing the boudaries of the tires, with these new ones i'm doing 120kph and not a hint of squeeling, extremely well planted. The Rubber is 225/45. The tires tuck in the fender alot better than I thought actually.

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.

nice. hows the clearance of the wheels from the inside? rubbing anything in there?

openshot 08-26-09 03:30 AM

damn it looks 10 times better

HadaGSL-SE 08-26-09 08:17 AM

Looks great. Just wait til you compare track times to the old tires!

Kentetsu 08-26-09 08:43 AM

Wow, you have like three times the ground clearance I've got.
You need to drop that baby! :)

orion84gsl 08-26-09 12:49 PM

I told him before he was going to need some RE-Speed coilovers. He didn't want to listen.

Looks awesome Sam, now do as Kentetsu says and get her a little closer to the pavement. No excuses.

dj55b 08-26-09 04:52 PM

Coil-Over kit is on my list to do, but won't be till atleast next year. I've already reached my budget for this year thanks to the tires. As far as rubbing, there is none so far (we'll wait till I get back on track and try things out there) but should be fine since I have about 1/4" clearance between the springs and the rubber. Rubbing the fender definatly won't happen though unless I slam it right down, but even then I would just compensate it by getting stiffer springs.

Kentetsu 08-26-09 05:29 PM

I'm sorry, I was thinking you already had coilovers. That left me wondering why it was sitting so high. If you do get them, I think you will be very happy. The hollow front swaybar is also super yummy! That baby is probably my single most prized posession aside from my Sterling carb.

dj55b 08-27-09 09:52 AM

Already have the Re-speed front sway bar, along with the rack and pinion, and strut tower bars, big brake kit, with axles from him. So all that I'm missing is the coil overs from him lol. For now I have the eibach springs, and tokico blues. When I upgrade to coil overs, I think that I'll be getting the illumina's alongside with them, and fresh bushings front and back. Even perhaps tri-link, who knows.
