By the way, do you have any articles or advertisements for the rear hatch carpet sets? I think Mazdatrix used to sell them. Basically just like the front carpets, with the rubber backing and all, but for the rear hatch. I think some were even embroidered with "RX-7" on them. Also the rear hatch Covers, for the "trunk" area?

I might be remembering them wrong. It's been a lonnnnng while...

I found this from Style Marque in the June 85 issue. They sold replacement front and rear mats with custom inserts and embroidery. I think the trunk cover came out with the 2nd gens. I see a lot of ads for them from 86 on. Not sure if they made one for the 1st gen.

Thanks Ron, but I don't think that was it. I remember it was a set
of Front Carpets, with a matching rear hatch carpet. Although the
ad you posted says it offers a rear deck mat, the advertisement I remember had a picture of it.

And No, I wouldn't call a company that closed many years ago, LOL.
What I wanted was a nice picture to be able to show any local
company that does auto interiors.

I'll keep looking. I knew you wouldn't call, but every time I mention these somebody says they called and couldn't get an answer.

kool. my 84 had that style mats in it. driver's side is wore thru the carpet where ur heals spend most of the time.

Back in the 80s to early 90s there was a company in California called Rotary Engineering. Does anyone know if Rotary Engineering is still in business?

Not in business anymore. I got my exhaust and dual facet fuel pump setup from them in the early 90s.

I wanted to speak up now and we can check on the facts but I believe that Rotary Engineering was Nick's from the current Fast Freddies business that Nick still owns. When I was there, he showed me some of his prior rotary improvements that were R.E. stuff, and stated that the demand was too low now to warrant production of his prior products, though he still has some pieces left. I will check.

Speaking of rotary engineering, does anyone have a copy of the article on their "turbo alternative" car with the dual dcd's?

It must have been back in 1982 or thereabouts. I was editor of Import Parts and Accessories -- a trade magazine. Somewhere I should have a copy of the issue, but it's buried under 28 years of magazines collected since then!<<

I politely asked him if he could avoid getting hurt, to try to find that needle in his haystack for you. I'll let you know if he shoots back with anything more.

Also do a search in Google Books, there are scans from old magazines with comparison tests. I just read one Popular Science from 1984 with RX-7, Corvette, and 300ZX.

Yes, I have that article. Mine looked identical with the same engine, wheels etc. but had the RB 4 barrel Holley.

I used to be good friends with the owner of Rotary Engineering back in the early eighties and the staff, Mike and Joe. RE closed down because of the local DA. Some clown out ran some cops and they couldn't catch him , the RX7 was too fast. When they finally did they impounded the RX and went through it , found out why. They went after RE for selling race parts for the street. RE said they sell the parts with a statement they are for "off road use only". The DA said too bad and said his office would take them to court for every header and exhaust part they cited, even if RE won in court they would keep trying them in other words bankrupt them so RE closed down.

A ported 13b in that first gen car would kick an early 928's ass, not even close. I owned a later 928 GTS and my RX-7 with just 225 hp was as fast as my late model 928. (That was before the nitrous and the blower).

I'm now curious about this article myself.
That's an awesome yet sad story. I hate it when one person screws it up for everyone else. Mike and Joe still hang around or what happened to them after this?

So a friend/co-worker of mine told me about an old magazine he had from 1980.
Apparently the cover was a first gen. rally car. I know have him hunting for it.

I don't think this was posted yet. I have a bunch of stuff left over from when my grandmas dealership closed down, I'll try to get some more posted.

17 issues of TISP put out by Rx7 club. Tons of cool stuff in these. Owner submitted mods, engine rebuild, carb and exhaust install/tuning, you name it.
