Sorry, they are kinda pretty and all... but I enjoy still having a working spine when I get where I'm going.

DerrickS 09-29-11 06:47 AM

As Collin Chapman once said: A suspension that works, does.

In other words, a suspension that works, works because it is doing its job of suspending the car and taking up bumps.

I see some of you already get this ;-)

82transam 09-29-11 08:11 AM

^Yep, I won't deny that it looks cool, but in the end it's kinda pointless. I will say that I can respect the amount of work needed to get that "perfect fitment" though, there is more to the whole stance thing that just cutting coils off springs (in most cases at least)

DF, that pic is hilarous!

rwatson5651 09-29-11 01:33 PM

Looks like he didnt just cut coils, hell he just took em out.

Re-speed coilovers. My car has cut springs and doesnt ride very bad at all. only bad part is the lower 4-link smashes into the body once and a while.

Because driftcar.

t_g_farrell 09-30-11 08:59 AM

This is the intersection of rice with rx7. Note the backwards ball cap on the driver.

Whats with the funky exhaust pipes out the back anyway?

Ok, its obvious I'm not a fan of mods for looks. Whats been done drastically reduces
the cars performance in any kind of event, drift included.

codytheoutlaw 10-02-11 08:21 PM

That car has respeed coilovers on it and custom strut tubes from a supra I believe. It looked like he did a good job on it.

Well, the object of drifting is to reduce the car's performance, so I say mission accomplished!

orion84gsl 10-03-11 12:21 AM

The crazy guy is using re-speed springs in the rear... and that's it. He just skipped the perches and has the springs in there like stock. I love the look, but I tried it and it hurt.

Sacrificing performance for the sake of looks is not something I can relate to. My car is as low as I would consider going for driving on actual public roads. And if I lowered it any more, my performance would suffer. I actually tried that at first, running about 1.5 inches lower, and the handling just plain sucked...

.

craaaazzy 10-04-11 03:25 PM

kentetsu, u have the respeed coilovers?

MountainScreamer 10-04-11 05:19 PM

I must say I enjoy lots of the slammed old j-tin but I don't think the rx7 looks that great super low.
Still, good job making everything fit but if the 4-link is hitting the body then you're just defeating the point of the whole system.

What size and backspacing are on your diamond racing rims? I really like the fitment in the back.

jdmminot 10-04-11 08:24 PM

Found the links to his build..

http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9437
http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=10355

The first link shows how he modified supra struts to work, as well as those EXHAUST PIPES....
15x8 , 4" backspace/0 offset.

I love the look of the rims and how they fill up the wheel well, but the slammage is a little too much! does anyone know if the same rims would fit a stock non-se suspension after a fender roll? I know 13 is a popular size, but these look sweet.

Colbskee 10-05-11 12:09 AM

i have found that without a fender roll, 15x7 3.5" back space is about the max.

blackdeath647 10-05-11 06:49 AM

i like it. yeah it doesn't do a whole lot for performance if you're doing any kind of racing. but for drifters were the point is to get low, sideways, create smoke, and look good, all that matters is that the car stays flat so they can take pictures of it

Yes. 275 front/150 rear. That is a great spring combination for daily driving/weekend racing when combined with the Respeed front swaybar. :)

jdmminot, I have the same size rims and they fit. You will have to roll the fenders a good bit but it will work. I only have maybe a 1" drop,

What size tires are you running, and what's your suspension setup? Any more pictures of your car? Looks good from here

MountainScreamer 10-06-11 08:28 AM

Tires are 205/50s. Suspension is GR-2s and B+G springs. I was impatient to get the thing rolling but I wish I had waited and gotten some RE-speed stuff.

I'll get some better pictures soon, the car is pretty rough so I don't like to show it off too much.
