Looking at First Gens
I've been looking at buying a first gen to build into a nice summer fun car. I have a line on an 83 for $300. It has some issues butI would just like to know what you guys think is reasonable for prices.
Even as a parts car. $300.00 is a good buy.
I paid $350 plus towing for an '83 GSL with a dead motor and a spare core, and I consider that an awesome deal. I also recently paid $300 for a nice S + GSL diff rolling shell with no engine, trans, or radiator.
If that one is complete (or even mostly complete) and the body is in reasonable shape, that's a steal. Get it. Just make sure the bin rust is manageable. |
i've never payed over $400 for a first gen. and i drove em all home.
as stated, $300 is more than fair for an FB. you'll find that with most SA/FB's you'll have an issue or two. it happens with 20+yr old cars :) but thats what makes them fun and exciting! post some pics if you can!
I paid $700 for mine and it ran....i got a guy at church who wants me to take his 80 of his hands for like $150 it doesnt run but is completely stock. $300 isnt a bad deal for a car at all.
I paid $2K for mine... but it had 130K, and was from California without a spot of rust and was straight as Hughe Hefner... And I live in Canada...
Thats a nice looking 7
i gave 500 for my 83 limited edition. it diddnt run but was in excellent shape. all it needed was a fuel pump.
i gave 1000 for a 85 gsl-se with 78000 on it LOL
I got some info on this 83.
It had been sitting for a few years and had bad gas in the tank. The guy who has it now drained the tank and put new gas in it and it started and ran. The he parked it for month and it wouldn't start so he is selling it. |
Buy it. That price is a steal.
After sitting for a while they can be a pain to start even if there is nothing wrong with it. I got my '79 towed home because it "couldn't start" after a year of sitting but after some trickes of the trade I got it started and hads been my DD since. |
yes definately buy it. i got mine for $50 with no engine or rad. all i did was put my engine, rad and oil cooler out of my 808 in it and it was good to go.
I paid $350 for mine with a warped engine. $700 for an engine and a weekend of beer and help from my Dad we got her going. Her maiden voyage was a trip to the Florida state line for more beer...LOL (Counties here are dry on Sunday) 10 years later I bought a donor car on ebay for $250, drove it for 2 years and recently she donated her organs to the first one. Somehow it all evens out...
I paid around 4500 usd for mine:) and that is a werry good price in Norway:wallbash:
well i paid 350 for my 91 fc convert..... with 130thousand miles the guy who sold it to me new nothing about cars all the car needed was a new starter and a battery lol..........if you live in the states look under craigslist.com you can find cars really cheap on there...
i got both of mine for $400 total from a towing yard. but i got them for a steal the guy actually lost money cause it was either selling them to me or scrapping them. spent about $6 and got one running
I got my 82 for... nothing! It had a lot of issues so he just gave it to me. A guy should be stopping by with a first gen parts car for a $100 bucks anyday now. :)
Holy crap you guys buy your 7's for next to nothing!
I might buy another one for the prices you guys are paying, i am beginning to think i may have paid too much 4-5 years ago :( |
I paid $800 for mine and the only thing that is wrong was the brakes and the starter
lol , i havent paid more then 700 with title and licence ...
