What about using some existing LED tail lights and making them work?

Might be a bit late with this notice, as I'm just now catching up on the thread... but you might want to take an ohmmeter to your painted perfboard before you get too far along.

Many metallic paints are partially conductive. If the one you used is, you'll have some serious shorting issues. Better check it before you invest a ton of build time!

Thanks for the idea! I will test it with a 3V battery and I do have an ohmmeter that I can test it with.

I would use them KCREPU, but it's not original enough for me. And by them time I buy 4 of them I'm up to $80+ which is more expensive than doing everything the way I want it.

Hey guys, quick question.

How do you remove the black tail light housing from the clear outer protective covering?? It is glued on and I absolutely DO NOT want to bust it or out any cracks in it... maybe warm it up in the laundry tub with hot water and try to pry it with the glue warmed up?

Lemme know guys, thanks.

Yes they are glued. One trick is to heat the housing up with a hair dryer, or in the oven. That will loosen the adheasive and let you pull it apart.

hey there, just wanted to touch base, i havent had access to my parts since they're all in my dad's garage and he's out of town and i have no way of getting in. he should be back next week though, so if i do have an sa tailight i should be able to send it off sometime next week if you still need it.

Yeah, I could still use em! I'd just take measurements and see how I would build the lights then get it back to you as soon as possible.

I'm working on taking off the clear covers to my tail lights tonight, along with finishing up my marker light LED conversion, I'll start a new thread that I hope can get archived about that. Should be up soonish, need to just finish up the build and get the right resistors and hook em up!

Well this sure fizzled out, kid must be an idiot...:egrin: He'd only had his car for 7 months at the time of the last post, yikes. It's crazy to think about the state of mind I was in at the time compared to now - truly scary. I was only a few months away from my high school graduation at this time, with a beautiful bone stock 12a powered FB that was amazing. Now I'm sitting here doing a GSL-SE suspension swap with a soon-to-be 350rwhp huge streetported S4 13bt sitting on some wheels that are worth more than what I paid for that gray car in the first place. Hard to believe this was 3 years ago now already, how time flies...

I'm working on this idea again here, since I found that my engine will need an expensive rebuild before being put in the car I'm building. I've got a few spare tail light housings, spare LED's laying around, and some perfboard from this project still I do believe. I'm kicking around some ideas and have yet to decide on one arrangement or another for the LED's in the housings, been scoping out FD LED tail lights and found a few I liked:

This is even the same arrangement that we have in our stock tail light housings so it would be the easiest to replicate by far:

What ever happened to this project? I've been trying to find someone who can get this going. I don't know anyone who can custom make LED tail lights or who may have the knowledge and I'm not that person either. I'm super interested in getting a pair.

Watch Arron Cake's Cosmo build video on making these. Very inspirational.

any updates ever happen with this?

Did this project ever get off the ground or completed...?
