I bought a new carpet set for my build from them this spring. They have two different piles, and you can order it with or without the mass backing. I ordered the normal pile with the mass backing. It's nice. Definitely better than my roached out original carpet.
It comes oversized on the edges so you'll have to trim it to fit and cut out the holes for the seat mounts, seatbelts, shifter, etc. but it comes formed with all the right contours in the right places.
Took me a weekend to get it in the car and cut right. Lay it in the sun to soften up a bit and lay your old carpet on top of it to help figure out where the holes are supposed to be. Take your time and trial fit, trim, trial fit, trim some more, etc. and you'll have it right. Use sharp razor blades.

Does the mass backing replace the factory padding under the carpet or add to it??Originally Posted by woodmv

No, the mass backing is a rubber-like substrate on the bottom of the carpet that gives the carpet more weight and heft and helps form the carpet to the shape of the interior. Someone on here commented a few years ago that they had ordered a set without the mass backing and the carpet was flimsy (my words from recollecting his comments), if that makes sense. I think what you are referring to is the jute padding beneath the carpet, and yes, the carpet set did come with that in key areas as the factory pieces did, such as near the seat bolts and the transmission tunnel. The jute padding does not cover 100% of the carpet area. I added a heat reflective padding separately in my build.
Hope that helps.
if I had to do it all over again, I would of gotten the mass backing. Anyway since there is a water leak some where, the carpet now just sits in my bedroom

I have the floor carpet, hatch carpet, floor mats and an extra yard of carpet from Stock Interiors sitting in my garage right now. I am taking a bunch of pictures and will be posting them along with notes on how the install goes shortly. Not sure yet if I want to start a build thread and lump it in with all of the other things I am fixing or put just the carpet install in a thread on the General Discussion board.Originally Posted by OCDHerb
