I am trying to find out what this thing is on the bottom of the engine. close to the front lower engine. its some kinda switch with a metal linkage going to it. My buddy bought this engine, has weber carbs and a upgraded header. not sure what that thing is. I cant find anything about it in the FSM.
Follow those two tubes up and let us know if they are connected to the carb. Right now I can see that the linkage is not connect and therefore not pumping and oil to the carb. Oil injection is critical to the engine. It's like a 2 cycle. Until this is resolved, you need to be manually mixing 2 cycle oil into the gas at every fill up. I cannot stress how critical this is for the life of the engine.

Those 2 lines run to the top and nothing else. Is there something missing?

On the factory carb, they run into ports and supply engine oil to rotor for lubrication. Similar to a 2 stroke. I don't think that after market carb has a provision for oil injection. If you use this carb, you'll need to premix 2 cycle oil in the gas at each fill up. The preferred amount can vary according to who you ask, but 1/2 oz per gallon is a good according to MazdaTrix. https://mazdatrix.com/product-catego...ls-and-premix/
The 2 lines run to the top of what? The float bowl? Into the air path? Can you post a photo where the lines meet the carb?
On the OEM carb oil gets dripped directly down the barrel.
The lever is supposed to be linked to the throttle shaft so it meters more oil when the throttle is opened.
If the oil lines are going to the right place you could just fix the lever so it's at full open all the time.
For $12,500, it needs to be relatively low mile exceptional specimen with great paint, interior, good running condition, and good under hood appearance. If it's just a standard barn find, then it needs to have had all the systems gone through and had all hoses, belts, brakes, tank cleaned, new tires, etc. and run and drive great.
