I'm looking for an 85 owner's manual as well, the car is so nice but didn't have the original owner's manual in the glove box.

It's really excellent that the guy hosts all of those super useful RX-7 manuals.

I saw the ad for this car through Google image search and saved all the photos because it looked so nice. I have owned a series 3 with the same colour, Tender Blue, for the past 20 years (see http://www.ausrotary.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=89142)

I actually posted a want ad on this site that I was looking to purchase an 84 or 85 and one of the members reached out to me and after talking back and forth for a couple of weeks I could not resist and purchased it, the gentleman is a wonderful member on your site, a man who does just what he says and promises. I have wanted one of these cars since they were new I tried to buy one in 1985 but just couldn't swing it. I have been restoring 280Z's for years and I'm selling my restored 75 280Z in order to make room for this car. I worked as a import mechanic in the 80's for a stint on these and other exotic cars so I'm very familiar with these and others of that period. I still restore classic cars from the ground up to this day at my home garage. I have to tell you this car is a time capsule it is beautiful inside and out. It is like time has been turned back to 1985, what a good time that was in the world . Mazda nailed it with this car just like Nissan did with the Z' of that era. The design is just fabulous, I'm in the design field so I can really appreciate good design when I see it.

lmao, i did the same thing, its a nice car in a really good color, and if you need backup pics that should be no problem!

If the goal is to restore the car, first thing i would do is put on the correct steering wheel centre cap. It currently has one from a 81-83 model.

And leather wrap the steering wheel like it would have had originally.

Then...nothing. I couldn't spot anything else!

Actually you're right. Leather steering wheel was optional even on GSL-SE. I get confused because of all the regional differences. In Australia, ALL 84-85 got leather steering wheel standard. Many had the leather ripped off years ago because they deteriorated in the sun. But this leaves the moulded urethane finish perfectly preserved underneath. This makes it hard to remember which got leather and which got urethane.

you can tell a wheel that was originally leather because there is a small cut for the stitching in one of the corners.

i'm not sure what interior colors you guys got, please tell us. in the USA, we had red, grey and brown. grey was always cloth, but red and brown were available in leather. i'm in progress still, but so far the grey cloth is the most common (over 50%), and brown leather is the least common (i think about 5-6 cars out of the 600 i've looked at so far)
