FC rx7 carbed v8 swap wiring harness help please

Hello everybody. I have a Fc turbo II that i ripped the motor out of, and i have a sbc 327 I am going to put in it. basically I want to know what i need to do to the factory wiring harness to get it to work with the sbc. Can i re use it or should i just scrap the harness and get a painless one. if I do that, will I need any other wiring or will that about to it? at the least a link to a forum about this topic would help. I just can't find what I am looking for. thanks

pretty well all that is needed is 12 volts switched..
you need to power the coils and the fuel pump, starter and it's solenoid.
If you got an EFAN then you need power to that too.(to it's relay or whatever).
There is another Car forum that deals in "NO Rotors" in an Rx7..ahem..you may want to look there too to get some additional insight.

Oh if you want the stock oil and temp to work on the gauge cluster then you can swap the sensors on the Engine for the Mazda ones.I am not sure about the thread sizes so double check that as Mazda is a wonky thread pattern.

would you be able to tell me if I should get a painless harness of somehow use the facotry harness, if all i want is the car to run, and cluster to work? No lights or accessories

gutting the factory harness and installing a "painless" harness is way more work than using what you need from the factory harness to get the carbed SBC running. Like misterstyx said you are talking about using just a few wires from the front and engine harness. There are factory service manual wiring diagrams on this website available for download and this:

GRANNYSSPEEDSHOP.COM

....is almost a one stop shop to get you where you want to be. I haven't spent much time in his 2nd gen section but his 1st gen section pretty much tells you wire by wire what you need to use from the factory harness and what can be discarded.

Well the speedo would need to be calibrated or "mated" to the trans using whatever they do to make that work...sorry I can't help ya there.
RPM?..haven't got that yet..I am looking into it as I go..

Now you could make a setup with speedo and Tach, use the other gauges in the cluster and signals in cluster too.It would take some fab work but can be done easily.

So far I got the Voltage, signals, indicator lights etc in my cluster working.I "lost" gas level" somehow but I'll be hunting that down.Fuel pump is on a relay wired to 12v switched from the Ignition..Switched AGAIN inside the cabin if I want to cut fuel.

*if you remove the Engine harness(passenger side) you will have to strip the WIPER harness out of that Engine harness and plug it back in to the car and wiper motor so you can retain that part's function.

By the way they Do make GPS speedos and there are no cables to the Trans to worry about.

From when I put in my standalone ECU and harness I remember the only things I had to put back into the FC as far as wiring to make the stock stuff work were-

Made a jumper/patch harness from dash harness connector to windshield wiper motor (used to go through stock engine harness).

12V switched wire for ignition systems ignitor/coils from another source (right out of chassis harness' relay box).

Note: You will have to re-wire the fuel pump/relay (mine went through standalone ECU).

Note: You will have to add electric radiator fan wiring/relay if you want it (stock is mechanical clutch fan).

So, to recap-
keep the chassis harness (driver's side) and ditch the engine harness and add a few wires (passenger's side) and keep all the dash harness (inside the car).

My guages are out of wack ..
So I need to put new guages...
Maybe we can help each other with questions and do a coffee some time..
Its takin me 3 years to do this car and $40,000 later and still not done ... its running.. but .. im fussy ...
It cost me so much because of mistakes.
