What size exactly would you recommend for 17" wheels for FD?

Hi, just a quick question.

17x9 +45mm with 255/40/17 all round seems to be highly recommended for street use, is that true? I am looking for an upgrade from the stock 16x8 +50 with 225/50/16.

How about 17x9.5 with 255/40/17? is that even better than 17x9? if so, what is the offset best suit 9.5? is it still 45mm?

I found a set of wheels that I want to buy. It comes in 17x8 , 17x8.5, 17x9 and 17x9.5. I have only seen offset between 30-40. So I don't know which size to choose exactly.

Thanks!

They do also offer stragger fitment like 17x8 front 9 rear. or 8.5 front 9.5 rear. shd i insist to have 4 wheels of the same size all round, performance-wise? ignore the fact that I can rotate tyres.

I use the Enkei NT03+M 17x9.5 +44 with 255s all around. You need to roll the fronts but the rears are fine.

17x9.5 +35 front and rear 255/40/17. dont worry, it'll fit. most of the fd's in the hyperRev mags run this setup on street and track.

Kyle and I have Enkie 17X9 RP01s. We both previously ran all 255/40-17 for the street and they were a perfect fit.

Then we started making more power and needed larger rear rubber.
We both also decided that 255 were too big for the fronts for street driving.
Part of this was inner wheel wheel rubbing.

Now we both run 245/40-17 front and 275/40-17 rears.

Kyle is making 425 rwhp (525 on NOS), LS1 powered.
I have about 390 rwhp stock port GT35R.

thanks cewrx7r1 and specter328:
Its very helpful to know 17x9 actually goes better with 245/40.
So.. it seems 17x9.5 is better suit with 255/40.
Also.. +44 or 45 seem to best suit FD with either 17x9 or 17x9.5, correct me if i am wrong!

hmm would you guys prefer 17x9 or 17x9.5 then?

Hey Oun,

17x9.5 +35 with 255/40/17 - is that with a fender roll or not?

u reckon 17x9.5 +35 is better than 17x9 +45 - does it look more align with the fender?

would u prefer stagger fitment then like with wider wheel at the rear than the front? cos the set of wheels i want to buy comes in stagger fitment, i need to make special request for 17x9 or 17x9.5 all around.

thanks!

Hey Oun,

I saw u got the 5zigen 17x10 +25 on ur FD and the aharana guy (sorry if i spelt his name wrong) got 17x10 +35. very nice looking wheels!!! just wonder if the silver colour is only available in US? cos i dun seem to able to find it on the 5zigen website. they only have black, bronze and the black with silver dish.

Would you recommend 17x9 or 9.5 set up or the 17x10 set up?

Please answer my last post to you as well.

255's are a perfect size for 9" rims. 245's fit on 8" rims (as you'll see a lot of guys running 245's on the 16x8" stock rims).

Isn't this the THIRD time you asked the same basic question?

the 17x10 with 255/40/17 +35 will work in the rear with little to no roll. the 9.5 with 255/40/17 +35 fits all 4 but you will have to roll the front fenders. no pull. thats what RE-Amemiya, Pan Speed, R-magic, and Fujita eng. run on their fd's w/no fender flares. i just went with the 17x10's for the concave look and i like a medium stretch. good luck with whatever you choose to go with.

Chuck, what offsets do your wheels (both old & current, unless they didn't change with the tire sizes) have?

We kept the same 17X9 RP01 wheels. I do not remember the offset.

The 255/40-17 fit the rims perfectly as I said. Actually, 245/40-17 look a little small on the wheels. 255/40-17 are not needed for street driving unless you are driving 100% all the time. Kyle corners faster than me and even he thinks 255s are not needed.

We did have to roll our rear fenders for the 275/40-17 tires which have 10.5" thread width.
