coax between antenna and radio bad
coax between antenna and radio bad
I've got continuity between the antenna, and the connector just under it, in the fender. However, when I check the core of the coax running to the radio, there's no continuity. How much of a pita will it be to replace this?
* edit * I've got and 87 NA, all factory.

It is not so hard. Murray's sells new coax for six bucks, and it's long enough for the Rex. I did this myself a while ago. Just off the base of the antenna you'll find the port for the coaxil wire. So plug your new one in there. Then draw the new wire however you like to the radio. You'll have to take the radio out to plug it in back but that's not so hard.
Well, the radio's already out. It was dead when I bought it (no info on display, wouldn't even try to tune). Do you think plugging into the old cable, taping them really well, and using the old to pull the new will work? What did you do? Thanks.
Yeah, you can pull one cable with the other. Thing is it goes under carpeting and stuff, so it's gonna be tricky. I actually just ran the new one in a similar manner. I mean, it's really easy. But yeah, this will work with any aftermarket radio head.
Some (all?) coax radio antenna cables have a capacitor in them and will read "no continuity," when in fact the wire is fine. Are you sure the wire is bad? Unless it's been cut, there's very little to go wrong.
That being the case, of course I'm not sure. I haven't even ordered the new head unit yet, and wont for another month or so. I guess I'll wait untill I get that, then test the cable using the radio. I was trying to run my CB off the existing antenna, but it looks like I'm going to have to break down and dirty up my pretty cars lines with an extra antenna. I'll make it a small one though.
