no acceleration at low rpm

1985 GSL 12a stock When trying to accelerate from dead stop, must rev to 4500 or more and slip clutch to get car to move without stalling ,once car is moving it accelerates strongly and smoothly. Same thing in each gear...below about 2500 rpm the more throtle you give the more it loses rpm, and wants to die. Once you get above 2500-3000 rpm it smooths out and runs strong. Idle is O.K. I'm thinking vacuum problem. No apparent pin holes or cracks in vac hoses. Car did sit in storage for a number of years. All fuel filters and filter screens cleaned or replaced. Lots of Lucas fuel line\injector cleaner ran thru. Any ideas about how to track down problem? Thanks

Rebuild the carburetor, make sure leading ignition is firing, make sure the dizzy is stabbed in the correct locations.

I mean to make sure the distributor is in the correct position. If it is one tooth off, or many teeth off, timing will never be correct.

Did this happen all at once, or slowly get worse over time? Sounds to me like you've got a clogged jet in the primaries. Time to do some reading, here is a site put together by our resident carb expert; www.sterlingmetalworks.com You can find lots of instruction on rebuilding, troubleshooting, and tuning the stock Nikki carb.

Good luck...
