84 GSL-SE Turn Signals

I just bought my first RX-7 today, and the turn signals don't work. I've checked the fuse box under the dash, but the fuse is fine. (I tested it with an actual fuse tester) I've been told it might be the actual switch itself, but I don't know how to check that. Any advice?

the bulbs might be dead.

always go for the most simplest fix and then work towards the harder fix

It seems early mazda cars have crappy combination switches which tend to fail easily. My 81 fb has a broken one, as does an 85 gsl i found in a junkyard, and a 91 626 at the shop i work at. If the fuse and bulbs are good and there is power at it when there should be then i would check the flasher relay for power. If the flasher gets power when you turn on the switch, but does nothing then its the flasher. If it doesnt get power when you turn it on then its the switch.

How do you check that? I think I may have found the issue. There's this crazy looking piece, it's white, has a copper coil, and these little like finger attachments that the guy told me fell off the steering column when he was fixing it. Could that be the problem?

sounds like that could be the flasher relay and if its unhooked or broken then its the problem. if its not you need to get a manual and find out where they keep the flasher relay, and i diagram will tell you which wire is power in from the combo switch. Turn the key on, and turn on the turn signal switch. use a test light with the clip on a good ground and probe the power in wire on the flasher. If the light comes on then your switch is good and you need a flasher
