well first of all, i do not own an rx-7 as of right now. i was contemplating whether or not i should pick up an FC off of my cousin's friend. This is the ad he posted up:

Read through the FAQs near the top of the 2nd gen forum. That's where the above links came from. Where is the oil leak? If it's a dowel pin leak, price needs to come down at least 500. If the wheels are 5 bolt, the 14" Enkies are a downgrade. If they're 4 bolt, it's a base/SE model. Car has some nice aftermarket options. If it will pass CARB/emissions testing, that's a big +. If not, it can be expensive to get it there.

 

A lot of what he said, though personally I would not trust a guy who thinks is a real email address. (i know what you did there...)

The big thing is the oil leak, sounds like he is just trying to say the motor consumes oil by design and there is no leak. But if there is a leak then more info is needed.

 

Oil leaks can be fixed, it's normal for all high mileage car. Negotiate with the price since you will have to fix this before it becomes worse. Keep an eye on the oil cooler line, mine just got busted few days ago and I'm not sure if my engine is still good or not till I change the part. For oil consumption you can live with it as long as it doesn't smoke, always top off that engine once a week if it is a daily driver. Now if you are planning to take it to the track, I would suggest replace all hoses. Upper, lower radiator hose, Heater hose and also the thermowax hose or you can just plug it off and take off that thermowax modify the TB while your working at it. Replace Oil cooler line hose and check the oil cooler mount if it still good. Doing the work your self will save you ton's of cash, specially buying an old car means you will have to deal with that. Now if you don't want to get your hands dirty then you should make a second thought on buying an old car like this. Not unless you have lot's of $$$$.$$ to burn then go for it! This why I hear a lot of people saying that RX7 are unreliable, due to lack of maintenance. It doesn't matter if it's a piston or rotary you just have to take care of it.

 

he said he is gonna have the oil leak repaired, then im gonna have my uncle inspect it at his shop. i also plan on doin a full 60k tune up when i get the car and replacing the pulsation dampener (i did some homework). so hopefully that should get it back in shape. thanks for your help. are there any other suggestions or things i should consider replacing/repairing??
