I have an '88 GXL. I purchased two blue neons for under the dash where your legs go. They both have little transformers in them and directly connect to a 12v source.

Now my question is how can I power them? Where can I hook them up? Ghetto rig em to the fuse panel or...?

I also plan on running a switch too (although most of you already assumed that).

Now I have a 'decent' background with electronics. But I'm dumbfounded when it comes to cars.

if they connect directly to a +12v signal, the "Best" way to do it would probably be a direct, fused wire running to your batt's posi connector.. the benifits of which would be that there wouldn't be a drain on any other system, and you won't be adding "noise" to your system (if you were going to splice off of the stereo's +12v)

PS - If you have a background in electronics, take a deep breath, relax, and remember, a circuit is a circuit whether it's on wheels or not

 

I don't see why you would call wiring them into the fuse panel "ghetto riggin" it. There should be an unused spot on the panel where you can wire it in, then they can have their own fuse too. However, this could still cause interference with the stereo so you'd probably just be best running its own fused wire to the battery.

 

I say ghetto rigging because when I was little, I always watched my brother work on his car. And EVERYTHING had a wire running to the slot with a fuse jammed in. And we just always called it ghetto rigging. Go fig. ;\

 

Ahh well see if I were to wire somethin into the fuse box it'd be soldered on the back. So yea I guess it is ghetto riggin it doin it your way lol

Purple neons in an RX7? Now that is RICER - purple neons are for dummys who own Hondas and Hyundais and need to try to make them different!

Ok, so firstly... thanks for the help...
Secondly... I dont know whether to think you're color blind, or illiterate. They are blue. I chose blue because my interior is blue, my headunit is set to glow blue, I have blue tint(previous owner put it on... I would of perferred black, but oh well). So I chose blue neons.

And with the blue tint, I'm hoping you can't even see them on from outside the car.
