Buying FD, need compression test in Yokohama? +tech ??

Hello, Main question:

What workshops are around yokohama that could travel and perform a compression test on an FD. Even any names of comapnies in the area i can contact them and ask if they can do what i need. Thanks

Other questions about the car.
Im looking at an FD heres the details:

1994, 65,000km, power fc and avc. defi boost guage, bigger exhaust all the way from what i saw, Hks piping for part of the intercooler. Other than that its stock from what i can tell.

The oil pressure guage was not working well. When it was working, it was in the normal position from what the manual says - about 30-35, it kept going to zero then would go back to around same position.

As i was finishing the test drive after about 10 min in japanese traffic i saw a red light flash once on the laft side of the dash looked like theres 3 in a row. in the workshop manual it says its if there a engine problem (MIL), any ideas?

Anyway it drove well and boosted just below 1 bar somewhere between 2000-3000rpm, idled at 750-760 with the aircon off. seemed mechanically pretty good and body was quite good. interiour wasnt great though. (sorry for the details i need some input for maybe my first fd purchase). Thnaks again

Myles

Welcome mate, i see your a fellow Aussie, where in Aus you from?

The oil pressure can vary from what ive read, unless its got really high or really low pressure, not really a problem. I may be wrong.

If its flashing a red caution light, i would steer away from it mate. Plenty more to choose from.

Mines got 68,000km and the interior is mint.

Just interested, do you have a link to the advertisement? Are you purchasing privately or through a car yard. If its a car yard does it come with a warranty?

will

another thing, is it silver by any chance?

Looks pretty tidy, but i would be asking the dealer about the red light for sure. Its a nice price. Does it have an aftermarket steering wheel?

Heyo, yeah thats it, i was just about to post up that same picture cause i cant link the exact page.

I only noticed the light for a second, where is the handbrake light? maybe it was something stupid like that i was seeing, it was just as i was leaving the lights. it was definitely on the left side looks like 3 in a row, can you look in your car when you turn the ignition on see what they are? in my fc there was stupid lights for low washer bottle do FDs have anything like that.

Looking at all the other options online this one is defintely the best that i can find for what i want. searching on the forum definitely seems to be that the oil sensors arent very good. otherwise its looking alright just wont buy anything till i get a compression test.

thanks mate

the dealership should be able to do the compression test. And i would ask the dealer about the lights. Does it have service books?

I know what two of the lights are, one is handbrake and another is rear window demister.

It looks pretty clean. I had trouble getting a mechanic to look at mine before i bought it. So i just took a chance and bought it.

mate, 8.0 is perfect if its on all three. They had 8.5 new. Heres the FAQ section as proof.

28) What should the compression be?

Compression test results are reported as six numbers: 3 per rotor. (This is not the same as the compression ratio). Higher, more equal numbers are best. The original Mazda specs dictate 8.5+ kg/cm² as new (121+ psi), with 6.0 kg/cm² (85 psi, 690kpa) being minimum acceptable. Maximum difference should be 1.5 kg/cm² (21 psi, 150kPa) from the highest to lowest value. It is important this test is carried out using proper equipment and under the correct conditions for rpm and engine temperature. Mazda dealers are generally reliable for performing this test, so long as they follow the procedures precisely.

I remember when Mine used to look like that.

Are you sure you want to buy something without tuning?

Or is it for export?

Russ.

got the figues back 8.0 8.0 8.1, so compression is all good. im probably gunna get it.

ReXtreme, thanks for the help on ausrotary too, i should of just asked the shop if theyd done it already, my brain is still stuck in australia.

I want something fairly stock so i can choose what to change and know that ive done it properly. In australia i bought a modified fc and it was a nightmare and my mates stock fc was faster and better car. Im sure they do things better here, if there anything you can suggest then let me know.

as soon as i can find where to get them ill get ast and radiator, has defi guage so i need oil pressure and water temp(or just watch the powerFC)...is the box thing they plug into mandatory (will it already be in the car...or not all defi guages are link models??) if not, is it worth getting? I can install them myself (but have to buy tools) but does autobac do it fast and cheaply??

And yes before the shaken runs out ill export it to aus.

thanks everyone

Stock is best IMO, but only if its genuinely stock and not been returned to stock. Buying a stock car tells you alot about the cars history and ownership. Probably hasnt been driven as hard.

I think labour here is really expensive, so most things cost alot to do.

I cant find a really cheap AST, best and cheapest one i can find is the REememiya item at 19,000. Quite alot of money to spend on a AST.

When does the Shakken run out? I planned to export mine when it runs out but im not sure if they will let me do it starting from when i bought the car because i didnt have a license. I bought the car before i had a license and have just recently got my Japanese license.

I checked the re amemiya and thought is must of been something else it was way too expensive, a full radiator was cheap in comparison to a tiny metal can.

the shaken runs out in march 2009.

I hope you guys are going to be here CONTINUOUSLY for 1 year
and
never leave the country for that whole year
and
the car is registered
and
you have a certificate for parking
and
you have to supply translations of all the things that prove above.

Because the import rules are tough for getting a personal import into australia these days.

If its a 99+ then no real problem just an expensive compliance.
If not. You need the above.

Russ.

Last time i had all those things.

Yes ive read all the documents and have the forms downloaded, and im also sure you have to own the car for 1 year straight without leaving the country (as rextreme said), you have to photocopy your passport (every page). I was going to ring them to find out for sure but never did.
