I am planning on getting a Motec M48 for my FD, is there anyone in Orange County that can tune one?

 

Why would you want to get a motec setup in the first place? it is overpriced and is not supported very much in the rotary community. You are pretty much going to be screwed trying to find sombody to tune your car with it. I would suggest getting a Haltech or a PFC.

The main reason why I want a Motec is because of all the features like the advanced lambda. I used to talk with Henry from Mazdatrix and that was what he suggested. I tried AEM EMS in my old FD once, pain in the @$$ to tune. I talked to a few guys at Racing Beat and they're actually tuning one right now. Thanks for the suggestion about RR&R, I totally forgot to check with them.

 

If you've got all the advanced features, and someone to tune it, you'll be happy with the Motec.

 

I hope so. I've checked with the other management systems but Motec is what some of the best tuned cars use. On top of that, I could use it with a 20B later on, not saying that the others don't but Motec has so many features. Main reason why I want Motec is because it would work great with my custom twin turbo set up thats going to be started this weekend.

 

Some of the best cars or roatary cars? If you have the money to burn on the motec and its overpriced additional features then go for it. But you will still not get the support you would from the widely acceptet and proven EMS's used in the rotary community. Nobody likes the AEM system as well.

IMO Motec is a waste of money

What a pitiful opinion. Have you tried using Motec yet? Motecs customer service is far beyond the likes of Haltech and god knows Microtech. With all the stupid bugs that Haltech/Microtech have, I have yet to have any problems with my Motec M4.

Tuning?

If someone can tune one EMS, the other is near the same. I've used/seen Haltech E6K, E6X, E8, Microtech LT8, LT10, Apexi PFC, Motec M4, and M400. Motec was far better than all of them, especially the M400.

Expensive? Sure they're a bit more expensive than your average E6X or LT10, but Motec now offers the Motec M2R which is specially for rotaries ONLY. And its competitively priced too ($1100-1600 depending what you need/want).

 

I appreciate all of your opinions, helps me decide whether they're positive or negative.

Jairyurai, thanks for your feedback especially. Who tuned your M4? Or did you do it yourself? The M2R sounds good, price is not that much more than Haltech.

BackyardSog, I know Motec is a lot of money but I've never heard of any problems with them. I've never heard of problems with units such as the PFC either but I'm looking for something I can use for later upgrades like a 20B.

 

Pitiful huh? I have dealt with a motec unit but not on a rotary. I dont care how good motec's customer service is. I am not even knocking the quality of there product. All i was pointing out was the amount of support from the ROTARY COMMUNITY. Do you see a motec section in the EMS part of the forum? Hmmmmmmm. Not to mention the OP has to come on here looking for sombody to tune it and it still looks like he is. There is a reason for that. Not to mention the OP is talking about the M48 which is over $2500 with added options.

Funny how you say if sombody can tune one EMS the other is near the same when the OP has allready run into the problem of tuning with an unpopular EMS. the Motec M2R unit is for use on "Twin Rotor" engines and he wanted the ablilty to use the same EMS on a three rotor if he ever decided to upgrade.

You say you've seen Motec software before, then how is it so different or complicated? You have ignition maps, fuel maps, blah blah blah... and so on. If a tuner who's familiar with a haltech, AEM, or even microtech, then figuring out the Motec software shouldn't be too difficult.

Why isn't there a Motec section? Because there's rarely ever any problems. Go look in there and you'll find numerous threads regarding ignition problems, connection probs, and etc. You don't get that with Motec, so why need a forum? I installed my M4 within a day and connected a Innovate wideband o2 with it. No problems and the 13BRE setup fired right up with one of the sample maps supplied. If there is a problem, then you call Motec USA directly and get answers directly from the manufacturer. You don't have to post and wait for replies or deal with second-hand information.

If the OP is looking for something to use on both a 2rotor and possibly 3rotor, then I'd recommend the M400. It uses the windows based software which is easier to read the 3d graphs and user friendly. The extra functions (lambda, datalogging, etc) have more hours before you have to enable them with Motec. And if you find a good Motec dealer, then you should be able to get M400 ECU, harness, and sensor package for around $2500-2600.
