So my '87 GXL is graced with the top tier audio package from the factory, but it's having problems.

I can put cd's in, it comes on, spins up, then shuts off. Same thing with the cassette deck, but it will come back on and try again before it shuts off. The radio works without a hitch and everything sounds good, but only aids my confusion as to what's going wrong with the system. Any help?

Btw, it's been like this since i got the car, and the previous owner said they rarely used it to begin with.
