I just replaced my Speedometer, which fixed all of my gauge issues (Now the Tach works perfectly, speedo works, & Odometer displays)

I wanted a way to put the correct mileage on the odometer without sending it out to a speedo show for a few hundred bucks, so I got under the car, removed the speed sensor and attached my drill to it to increase the mileage. Amazingly enough, it worked! But just for a little while....after about a half hour of smooth sailing, the odometer went from "0" miles to about "95" miles. Unfortunately at that time, thespeed sensor overheated and the rubbery seal that holds the wires into the sensor melted and the sensor ended in the drill chuck, with the wires hanging from the tranny. This is not so bad, beacause I already have a new speed sensor on order to pop in there...I was hoping to abuse the old one to add the mileage before putting in the new one.

Now, my question: The speed sensor basically just spins sending a signal through two wires to the speedometer to read the cars speed. Does anyone here have an idea how I could "trick" the speedo to think the sensor is spinning by putting some sort of current to the two wires that were originally in the speed sensor? I'm not much of an electronic whiz, but I figure maybe if I connect a car battery to the two wires it'll send some signal, no?

Any ideas would be much appreciated. My car only has about 35,000 miles on it & I'd like the dash to show it correctly.

Yes it seems like that if you power to the wire you will get something just make sure it is grounded or you might blow something up like your gauge cluser an easier way to do this would be to take it apart and manually turn it to your desired mileage ive done it before and it worked just fine.

 

I assume you haven't done this with an FD, as it has a digital odometer. Anyone ideas how to wire it properly and safely?
