Hey all. snow is on the way and RWD = FTL in the white stuff. TIME FOR SNOW TIRES

What is everyone out there using for snow tires?

I am currently in the market adn I dont know what to get. they range from $50/ea for winterforce to $80-$100 for continental Wintersports with Pirelli's in the middle somewhere...

Which direction should I go? Money is tight but I'd rather have good tires than a wrecked car!

also, anybody know where the heck to find blizzaks? tire rack doesnt have any for my car and from what I have heard, Blizzaks are teh winzor!

 

Blizzaks are great for areas that receive a lot of snow throughout winter. My area doesn't receive a lot of snow, maybe 2-3 good snow storms with a handful of 1/4 inchers. So, I'm using the Dunlop Winter Sports for my M3 as they are a good blend of dry weather traction and some snow.

Blizzaks come in a few different models, what size are you looking for?

 

whatever size the stock S5 vert wheels are I guess. maybe a hair more narrow.

I am in MN and we usually get a few nice snow storms and ice storms and maintain it all through winter... plus I go to work at 5am on roads that dont usually get hit with plows until 8-ish.

the only thing I dont like about blizzaks is the price. I had a set on my VR4 but they were like $140/each and I can't afford that right now... so i am hoping they're alot cheaper for the 7.

my buddys 240 had those and he got through the snow better than my Jetta could....

I believe those will fit (or a 205 size, however you mentioned maybe a size smaller) but you should check with some FC guys to make sure.

 

Hankook Icebear W300's are a good tire. My mom's Impreza has them on there and they're really a very nice snow tire for dry roads, and provide lots of winter traction. I'd recomend them. A 195/65/15 would be a good size, a little narrower and taller for better cutting through the snow.

I've got some Toyo Observe G02+'s and I don't reccomend them, they're terrible on dry roads and they really don't grip very well at all on wet pavement. They do ok in snow, but for everything else they're terrible.

they're a helluva lot cheaper for the 7 and the smaller size will be a big plus
