Stock Turbo...When should it be upgraded??

Hey all just out of curosity.... If someone has a ported engine, with an exhaust, injectors, upgraded fuel pump stock turbo and stock intercooler on a S4 Turbo II when should the stock turbo be upgraded?

Also what is the maximium boost you should not go over with the stock turbo?

Thanks all...

i have a Street ported S4 jspec TII, running MicroTech, stock Inj., FMIC and i had mine at 16 psi....don't do that man i blew the oil seal. It was hella quick but not worth loosing the turbo

from what i've read no more than 14 psi, i bought another stocker and it won't see more than 12 psi from me

Anything much over 10 becomes very hard on the little baby. 12 can be ran...but just know that the turbo isn't going to last you for 50,000kms at that boost level.

As far as when to upgrade it is concerned...either when you get smoked by an STI, or when the speed bug latches onto your jugular with his meaty jaws.

stock turbo will do 14psi at its limit, but dont expect it to last too long. Your turbo's oil seals will blow out at those rpms. 12psi is a more reasonable limit, but IMO, 10psi is a good compromise between reliability and power. If you want more power, upgrade to aftermarket or hybrid (bnr)

LOL thats a very interesting way to put it! Also what you said about the 10PSI that is what my friend just told me on the phone. He said his car was set at 12PSI with the stock turbo and after 9,000 miles it now won't boost over 10PSI and the turbo is leaking oil!!!

Thanks for the input...

the oil seals on mine are busted too, but im going to a t04 setup ; ). I ran 12 psi but it would spike to 14 for a second on 3rd gear. which is bad for your turbo and the engine if you dont have the supporting mods.
