Hey guys whats going on, I just recently replaced my pina or the diff about a month ago. There seems to be nothing wrong with the diff it's self but here is the problem. When i make a left turn I can hear a loud clicking noise coming from the driver side in the rear. I jus wanted to know if maybe the axles are done and should be replaced. Any advice would help me out please respond thanks. I want my car running top notch for seven stock 9 thanks.

 

LSD Rear? Sounds like you made need some "whale oil" to lube the plates

 

You think that might be it just needs more oil. I was thinking that some teeth on the axles may be missing. But for sure I will put some more lube into. Now saying that don't work what would be my next step. The whole lube thing makes sense though. Thinking about it making a left turn all the lube would sloush to one side leaving the diff pretty dry. It's worth a try though thanks.

 

"Whale Oil" is an additive that increases the grip of the LSD Friction Plates, it is available from GM or Mopar.

 

How much is that whale oil. Lets say i don't add the whale oil will the clicking get worse or stay the same. Will the clicking destroy something inside the car.

 

Mopar whale oil is about $8 for 4 oz. you add a little at a time, drive the car until the clicking stops

The whale oil additive was developed by GM to solve the differential chattering of limited slip differentials. It is not, to my knowledge, an additive for increased longevity.

 

are rear diff oil a lower grade from whale oil. Oh hey when i go purchase that whale oil today do ask for whale oil

 

I have heard that without the additive you risk the chance of breaking a clutch in the LSD. You can call it a gear oil additive or friction modifier for limited slip differentials. I doubt many people know it as whale oil.

Yo some cat just told me that it's not lack of lube or oil but that outside bearing on the axle is done broken no good trash so on and so forth

 

The bearing certainly probably is the no. 1 cause of the noise but if you have just had your diff rebuilt the axle may also be hitting the inside of the LSD. Inside the centre of the lsd is a 4 pinnion cross which basically stops the axles from being able to go from 1 side to the other. When turning corners the axle moves further into the diff due to load and can hit this pinnion cross when the car staightens up again the axle then moves back into position. when turning right the axle moves out ever so slightly but enough to give clearance.

Hope I haven't confused.

 

If you are crashing your axles into the diff, a thin shim on the offending bearing could be an easy fix.

 

Makes sense but the thing is that the rear end was not rebuilt, it's a junk yard diff and i was running the diff on my rx-2 before i took it out.

I should just check both then to be sure what you all think.

 

I have heard of some guys having to shave the ends of their axles in some cases but mainly on the earlier small type axles. If your diff was originally fitted with a LSD then there shouldn't be a problem but anything is possible. If you got the diff from a junkyard then it's very possible if the car was involved in an accident the impact could have damaged the axle bearing or maybe even bent the diff slightly.

Hey i got the rear end fixed it was the a bad bearing on the end of the axel easy fix but very dirty but Iam the clicking went away, I also threw in that whale oil stuff works good
