ok i just went to change the pads on my 87. i have the 4 piston calipers, from a 90 vert. i can get 3 of the 4 pistons to move back but the last one refuses to move. so for now i have only one new pad in that side. i worked on it for 2 hours trying to pry against it with a screw driver but no luck the other side only took about 10min's and it was done.

any sugestions on how to unstick it?
i even tried loosinig the bleeder screw......nothing...
think a spray oil will loosen it up?

Did you try breaking it loose like I said in the other forum???!!!!!

I had this happen to me. Get two small C clamps, put one on each side of the piston, and screw then back in. It worked for me on my stuck pistons.

 

You really need to replace the brake caliper.&nbsp it's a safety hazard that you're running around with corroded brakes.

I think it would proberly be somthing like a expanded seal or as Ted says corrotion.

I say u get some one to fit an Over haul kit for you. I would not risk driving it with dodgy pistons i'd spend the cash and get a genuine bits from Mazda then get a garage to fit it for you then u are on the road again.

I would say this would be cheaper than a new caliper but dont take any chances.

 

I got rebuilt calipers from NAPA for $100 each with a lifetime warranty...that's easier than a couple rebuilds in my opinion.

 

If you intend to rebuild yourself,then the best way to unfreeze the piston is to use compressed air.In order to do this you need to hold the other pistons in place(there is a special Mazda tool to do this)you can use small C clamps.If you do not have compressed air,you can free it using a grease gun--just replace the bleeder with a grease nipple ,clamp the free pistons and away you go---clean up is messy though.
