ADD Coolant light won't go away

The 'add coolant' light in my SE comes on and off intermittently as I drive. I topped it off the other day but it didn't take much. I let it run to normal temp and turned on the heater and added as required. If I rev the engine with the radiator cap off the coolant level goes down but then overflows when i let off the throttle.

Is this just air in the system and if so how can I get rid of it? Or, is this a sign of dowel pin failure coming on....?

Right on.

I don't know about the SE but on all of my SA's the wire for the cooant level sensor ( comes out of the top of the radiator) just breaks off or gets disconected very easy.

My SE does the exact same thing. I am pretty sure that the sensor is shot. I haven't overheated yet due to lack of coolant so I just ignore it and watch my temp gauge.

I know before, someone mentioned about filling on an incline or just parking on an incline with the engine running to help get them out, otherwise it just took a little to to come out itself.

top off the radiator and fill the overflow bottle half way. sometimes the coolent sensors get a film over them, remove the sensor , clean it, install. it's when the engine is burning the coolent( have to add coolant often) is a seal failure.

Your coolant seems to be fine.. It's normal for the level to drop when you increase the rpm's and rise when you decelerate. Like everyone else said, its probably the sensor..

This happens on my SE too. I think its the same problem I had with my brake res sensor where, it basically lost buoyancy and read as low even when it wasn't.

The SE doesn't have a low coolant buzzer like an FC has does it ? That would be really shitty....

I have an SE but my coolant light has never come on in all 200 miles I've driven it

I once had a kinked coolant line going to my beehive oil cooler. The add coolant light kept coming on even though the level was good. I replaced the kinked hose and the issue was resolved. Might be worth checking this out. Good luck...

My 85 GSL does the same thing. Also has the added 'bonus beeper' that goes off when the sensor activates. I hate the SOB but don't really want to disable the feature.
