This is my first post so let my introduce myself. My name is Matt and i'm 17. Just bought a 1987 rx-7 and it only came with some steelies and winter tires. I need a wheel/tire combination for next summer and was wondering if I could get some help.

The choice is between the MB motorsports weapon and the 5Zigen FN01R-C

I would like to know what sizes would look and fit best. I've read about 17X7, 17X8, and 17x9's and have all had mixed answers. I would like to leave the fender lip as it is and not have to roll it up. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated thanks.

 

if it was out of those 2 i like the MB motorsports weapons, 17s are a good choice, might want to go with a lil wider tires in the bak.....maybe 17x8front and 17x9rear
as ppl have told me, dont go with what people think, go with what you like best. just a lil advise.

there are a few that i know of on this forum, dont remember their names right now, but ill look later on if u still need help.

oh and it would also help to state what you are looking to do(i.e. speed for the city or track, handling in turns, daily driving with bling rims, etc.) there are many factors that can play a roll in this.

 

Unless you have lots of power then it's best to use the same size tire for the front and rear for good handling, otherwise you'll never be able to get it to do anything but understeer (plus you can rotate them if you use the same size). 225/45/17 is about as big as you can go in the front with the stock suspension (coilovers are narrower and give more room on the inside). Some people are able to use 235/40/17's on the front without coilovers, but there's a risk of severe rubbing on either thr suspension or fenders. I've got 225/45/17's on 17x8" Mustang GT wheels and they fit perfecly, and give good handling at the limit (on a racetrack of course, driving 10/10ths on the street is STUPID!). If you have a TII then maybe a little wider in the rear is good, like a 245 or 255 on a 9 inch wide wheel. For 225's a 7.5 inch wide wheel is ideal, but you can use anything from 7 to 8.5 (check the tire manufacturer's reccomendations). For offsets you should get something in the order of 25-32mm for a 8 inch wide (the Mustang GT wheels are 30mm and fit perfectly).

Do a search, look at the official FC wheel fitment guide thread, and listen to RETed, he knows his stuff.

I think i'm gonna go with some mb motorsports (a-tech) weapons.. 17x7.5 front and rear and go with the tire specs that u provided.

i just read up on aftermarket tire sizes on a couple other threads and found some that said 18s would rub a lot, so its a good choice to go with 17s

 

scratch that, found out I've only got 4 lug hugs, not 5

 

All of the specs still apply, just make sure the wheels have the 4 lug pattern (4x100 I beleive, but don't quote me on it).

 

I believed it was 4x114.3?

 

its 4x110 for the 4 lug FCs, i think, but i'm going to look it up
