Fuel Pumps: Carter vs. Mallory

Hey guys,

I'm going to be replacing my stock fuel pump very soon with an aftermarket unit and a Holley FPR. From what I've seen on here just about everyone runs a Mallory Comp 70 or a comparable Carter pump (8psi?). The summit racing Carter pump I'm looking at is $60 (CRT-P4594) and the Mallory Comp 70 pumps run about $145 (MAA-4070LP). Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on the two pumps. I'm running a slightly modded Nikki with the usual bolt ons. I may eventually be upgrading to a Sterling carb in the future. I have removed every emissions device on the car as well. I'm just looking for a good overall fuel pump to keep the Nikki happy.

I'm definitely biased towards the Carter pump 'cause I'm a big tightwad. What are the pros and cons of the two pumps as far as everyone knows? I've heard that the Mallory Pump is nice and quiet, but I'm not sure I wanna pay more than twice the amount of the Carter pump just because of a little noise. But enough of that.... I already know what I think. I wanna know your opinions! Below are some pics of the two pumps I'm considering.

ehhh, i dont know. ive heard nothing but good things about the mallory. but its expensive. but it might be worth it. ive never had one.

I have a carter, just like that but 16 psi. its a decent pump. it is LOUD! but i dont really care. and its more affordable.

Just out of curiousity why did you choose a 16 psi pump? I thought Sterling Carbs only needed somewhere between 1-5 psi of fuel pressure? Am I missing something here, or did you just want to make sure that the Sterling Carb would never go thirsty??

I chose a Mallory Comp70 for 60 bucks on eBay.

And yeah, you only need a max of 5psi. Anymore than that and you're asking for carb trouble.

I believe that I read somewhere that the Mallory is field rebuildable.
