How can i tell a 88 TII engine and an 89 + engine apart from the outside?? They have a casting number on the engine, but what numbers are for what engines?? Does anyone know how to tell?? Any ideas would help.

I think 89+ and up have round tail lights. interior is a little different on the dash. I think the gauges too. Get the VIN # and check it online.

 

I know at the bottom of the rotor housings there is a letter and that symbolizes the year of rx7 the motor came out of. Call Ari at www.rx7.com and he can tell you, he is the one that told me but i forgot what they were

 

i remember something about a stamp on the housing telling what year, and if it was rebuilt by mazda.

other things, if 86-88 has black door guards 89-91 has same color as car door ding guards, tailights, bologna wheels, retractable seatbelts.

 

Easy. The 88 and below have a mechanical OMP, that has linkage to the throttle body. The 89+ has an electrical OMP.
