Strut / Damper / Cartridge ???

Until looking at the possibilities, I didn't know there were just "cartridges"... all I knew is what most people know... "Shocks and Struts"

Anyway, how do I know if I need to replace my damper on my 84 GSL? I'm hoping I just need to replace the cartridges due to prices.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

The damper is just a solid piece of steel. There would be no reason to replace that unless it was warped or damaged somehow. I just replaced my struts on the front a month ago. I did have to heat up the nut holding the strut cartrige to break it free.
I could be mistaken for the 85, I have a 82.

struts and cartriges at least in this case are the same thing. The damper, as said earlier is the metal tube that holds the strut in it, as well as the front brake assembly and wheel. Changing struts is easy, just remove the whole assembly, compress the spring and take the thing apart.
