Anyone know in general,
what the life spans are for Single turbos??

I realize there are alot of factors in this, but
I am curious. WOndering if anyone have any
ideas..

Can you expect them to live or be good as
long as the stock twins?

What the most miles anyone got out of a Single turbo??

 

You will find not many people have an answer for this because of various reasons... either they drive the car too little to put significant miles on it, they do light rebuilds after a couple of years to avoid a total engine failure that could take out the turbo too, etc. It also depends on how you run it, what type of porting you do, and the level of boost you run are all factors in the life of the turbo and/or motor.

assuming perfect maitenence, a turbo should last forever... assuming poor maitenence, a turbo won't last more than a few minutes...

 

The motor is supposed to last at least 50K miles. I was told by Redline Engineering to rebuild my motor to protect the rotors and housings from damage. Therefore, they wanted me to rebuild at or before so there would be no or little damage.

WOW 50K!!

I'm getting my engine built as we speak and starting to learn quite a bit from my builder (who has over 25 years of building experience). Besides the obvious reasons for rebuilding your engine.. One of the most important thing I've learned is whom you get to build it for you.. My builder has spent days just spec' ing the parts and another several days lapping it.. To get everything just right.. He told me that I should get at least 60K.. Unless the car is tuned badly.. but I'm planning to get it tune by steve Kan.. But who knows.. More power means more stress and maybe less miles.. But he has built engines that last over 100K.. He must be doing something right??

I guess it really all depends on what you do with the car. I daily drive mine but respect the horsepower sence its my only trasportation(I have got to get a beater). It depends on who is taking car of the car as well(oil changes ect..) I would think with proper tunning ect.. A single should last longer than twins due to less temps.

 

This mileage you give is also all dependant on the type of porting that's being done and the amount of power you're going to attempt and extract from the motor. Generally and notice I said generally when someone gives you a mileage like that they are assuming near stock conditions or maybe a bit more. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'd really like to see someone who's getting 400-450 whp out of their car go 50k miles if they are driving the car the way it should be driven.
