-SE Cold air intake a must for all

I installed my cold air intake yesterday. Took it for a drive. All i can say is wow. Alot more responsive, alot more power. But the main thing is before the cold air intake if i would hold a constant 4k rpm in first, after a few seconds the car would chug because it got ahead of itself or somethign. Cold air intake fixed that. Hold her at 4k in first gear and she just has a nice constant speed. mm, i spent probably 65 bucks on cold air intake. Thats with filter and all

K, ill do a writeup. Its all custom so here goes. It only works on Fuel injected cars

items:

1: 3 inch diameter rubber coupler(plumbing store)
2: 3 inch diameter rubber 90 degree elbow(plumbing store)
3: 1/2 foot 3 inch diameter pvc pipe
4: Search google to find a K&N 2nd gen intake. It comes with filter and afm adapter.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2470730567
Can be found cheaper, just search a few times

Steps

1:Remove everything past afm.
2:Bolt metal adapter(comes iwth k&n kit) onto afm.
3: Attach Rubber coupler.
4:Cut pvc down to size, prolly 4 inches
5: Put half of the pvc in the rubber couple nad tighten.
6: Put other half in 90 degree bend and tighten
7:Put 90 degree bend through the oval hole in front of radiator
8: Hook air filter on other end of 90 degree bend.
9:Zip Strip up if you want for safety(i did)

Took me about 15 mins to install.

Cool Thanks. Now, how is this air filter different than the square K&N filter in my SE?

Not really sure how its different other than shape, probably not all taht diffierent. Its the location that produces hte improvment. Its put right out in the front of your car. Where all the air is forced up into. Plus its alot more area for air to be taken in. Stock setup is like maybe 2 inches. This is 3 inch, with like a 6 inch diameter filter so alot more air can be pulled in.

I believe that there is a K&N filter for that, as well. My car had the cone filter and the air pump filter on it when I bought it, so I'm not sure of the part number, but you can see it on my motor:

If you look toward the bottom-right corner of the picture, you can see it under the radiator hose, and near the cooling fan.

Edit: I think it's one of these

You can get for Ebay. It's the same on for 86-89 Rx7's.

i installed a cone filter just 2 months ago. i also made a fresh air inlet from the front like the stock one, but facing the front of the car. I then ran pipes from the inlet to a air box i fabricated that goes around the cone. All i have to say is man that thing sucks. but in a good way. putting your hand infront of the inlet tube and gunning it will suck your hand to the tube. it is nice, imagine going 70 and forcing air in there. it also fixed my ideling problem (too hight) and leads to insane burnouts exiting turns

Just go to rx7.com and buy their 1st gen intake system, it's easy to install and you don't have to fab anything with parts from the plumbing store.

Because its the exact same thing as i have, but i just relocated mine to get cold air. Their setups are like 100 bucks, thats a rip. 35 bucks for a k&n setup just like that. Add my extra 20 dollars nad its cold air . Thats still cheaper than their entire bonez system

with the pvc pipes i made an inlet from the front of the radiator, the only reason i fabricated the box was to reduce radiation and convection from the engine. the box also increases psi of incoming air which is good for performance. the inlet i made replaces the stock pipe from the air box that runs along the radiator. i will post some performance number increases as soon as i buy a performance meter

I did a mod like this but I took the radiator header panel off first, and I hacksawed about .5 inch around the oval hole to allow the 2.5 inch curve to lay in there. THen I attached a cone filter in front of the radiator. There is alot of space in there (even with the AC ) and I think no splash is gonna get you because its before the wheels.

Check out my CAI, which I think is designed very similarly, though I have the feed coming through Ram Air effect from the headlight lid. As you state, this helps to get colder air into the engine, since it's not being drawn from anywhere near the radiator:

This design is 'home-grown' for those of you out there looking for a complete setup. You'll have to custom fabricate the couplers and stuff, and this doesn't include the cost of paint and prep, and the headlight lid, itself ($155 - Mariah). HTH,

Nice!

I've been looking into one of those bowls that cover the cone filter and have an adapter on the end to fab pvc/drier vent hose/what-have-you between it and the front underside of the car.

Just another way to get the "ram" air effect. It would be interesting to see if I could tell any difference on the butt dyno...
