My Secret Sound System is Done! PICS!

Hey guys,

Just got some picture of the way I rigged up my CD player and speakers and the new antenna. I tried to keep everything looking nearly factory, 'cause I'm doing a semi restoration. I put the Pioneer CD player in the glove box where it can be safely locked away. Also included a picture of the Antenna that Vipernicus42 was kind enough to get from a local Canadian radioshack for me. Let me know what you think everyone! Enjoy!

yea looks like an S4. the S3 was a sliver radio.

and thats a good idea in the glove box, keeps people from wanting to break in a take your nice cdplayer.

Ya I don't get the point of the stereo in the glove box either. The easiest thing to do would to have just bought a cd player with a removable face. Anyway it is pretty cool though definitly unique.

Nice install. How difficult was it to wire the S4 head unit into the S3 wiring harness? I'm thinking about doing the same thing.

easy .. look for power look for ground and givershit . Do a search for stereo or amps and then disconnect them , they are under the cubbies in the back and make your connections there super easy ..cheers

I wanted to maintain the semi stock look of the dash, thus keeping teh toaster sized radio. yeah, it is out of a second gen rx7. The dumb partsyard I bought it from listed it online as an 85 radio. It was out of an 86. It fits though...

Go ahead and laugh! I've already got the parts to switch it over to a 5 spd! In fact that's my next project! I don't like the automatic more than anyone else. It's the only thing I hate about the car, and its on its way out the door. I can't stand having these wide open roads out int he middle of Indiana and a crappy automatic in the Rex.

Hehe,

GlazedHam, had I known that I was going through all that trouble to put an antenna on an *auto*... just kidding.

Your setup looks good, and I'm glad you're satisfied with the antenna. Good luck with your fivespeed swap

*chaulks one up on the board for a good seller rating*

Personally - I wouldnt wanna waste time having TWO radios/cd players?? and taking up precious space in the glove box? Still, each to his own. . . I still like the idea of the CENTRE antena!!! Just my humble opinion of course !

I kept the speakers in the stock locations, but replaced them with a nice aftermarket stuff all around. I didn't add any amps or subs or anything. Too much junk weighing down the car, plus i'm not really into the competition sound thing. Just to clear up some confusion, the toaster radio in the dash isn't hooked up. It is just a decoy to keep people from breaking in. I didn't think anyone would be too interested in stealing a 1980's cassette deck that weighs about 20 lbs. And I can still have my nice, clean, clear Pioneer cd player stowed away in the dash where no one can see it or get to it.

I'm the same way- I'll prob keep the 85 stock radio intact but install a decent system in the storage bins (r/c). I already have a 6 cd changer in the drivers side bin. I'd rather not draw much attention to my car and keep it stock looking..
