New Radar.........No Ticket.....Lucky

Hey

Just hooked up my new Uniden GPSRD.......GPS unit and radar in one......Its real cool......it also displays your speed .........Looks good in a First Gen....

So i am driving home........doing 85-90.........just keeping up with the traffic..........on the 101 freeway........

Come up on Malibu Cyn........It goes off slow.....then gets ugly...........I look everywhere..........and slow at the same time......A porsche behind me wants to eat my bumper and starts honking at me to move over......I cant.....Then I see the bastard........He is in front of me over in the slow lane........I continue at the Max speed limit 65.........he finally gets off the freeway and I resume
............

I did not know that they can clock you from behind........
If I did not have this hooked up I would have never seen
him.......I always look but he was in one of those stealth
chevy camaro's with the clear light bar.......California's
newest toy for the Highway patrol.........

The guy in the porsche........gave me a thumbs up for saving his *** too........

Be carefull out there.........

I have read some reviews on the Uniden unit, there have been some problems in the past about reliability.

All the reviews seem to be from early to late last year, I wonder if they have solved their reliability gremlins yet.

I would appreciate it if you could keep us informed, I was looking for a unit like this and need some feedback before I purchase one.

Yeah, keep us posted. I need some protection. I rely on things like letting the Porsches pass me to act as rabbits. Trouble is, there's not a lot of Porsches around here.

As far as the cops radar capabilities, once years ago I decided to try and fight a speeding ticket. While preparing my case I needed to subpeona the radar gun and it's calibration certificate. So I called the county cop's station and asked for someone in the garage. After a long wait I ended up talking to an actual technician from the radar company who was there to install some upgrades on their older cars, and he basically told me I was screwed. They don't have guns anymore, they have wired-in "surround" radar. They can get your speed if you're in front, behind, or to either side of their car. They can choose between multiple targets. They win, unless you've got early warning of their presence and slow your *** down.

It doesn't matter what the tech says, the radar detectors aren't perfect. They rely on a system that bases its info on a random process. The complex ways in which EM waves travel is not an easy thing to contemplate let alone decifer. The radars will allways have errors....

What you really need is the paint/coating they stick on stealth fighters.... or that stuff I remember hearing about a couple years ago that you put on the licence plate, that aborbs the radar (your plates are actually the part of the car that best reflects radar), but I hear its illeagal now....

Well, in Florida you only need a back plate, no front license plate.

Can't cops bust you for speeding anyway even if they don't have their radar on?

they have to have an actual speed of how fast you are going. but some still use the old stop watch method. They sit back and mark two points on the road about a mile apart. Then time with a stop watch how long it takes you to get from point A to point B. Im not sure how popular it still is though.

Wow, that is pretty archaic, but effective I guess.

I just want a new toy, and don't want it to break in 3 weeks like the reviews I read said they did.

They'll time you with airplanes every once in a while around here on I-5. Ever see those big white stripes & V's that are perpendicular to the road every so often?

i dont know how well this works but i know it has worked for 3 of my friends.

when you get a ticket fight it in court, befor the court date call in and get an extention, move the date back when that date comes do it again. i had a friend do this 3 tims befor they said he had to come in.

any whoo by the second extention the cop will eighter not remeber who, what, where, why and when. or will not show up and the ticket will be tossed out.

*like i said befor i have not had to do this, i have not recived a ticket yet (knock on wood) but it has worke for 3 of my friends use at your own risk*

oky well.. ive got a story i guess i might aswell tell.. it was late oen night and i had been following some old guy goin like 10-15 Km for like 5-10 minits looked liek he was lokin for and adress or soemthing. Its a 2 lane road with a double yellow.. i fianlly got to a striaght were i was sur eit would be safe to pass. and jsut as i was pulling back into my lane after passing him a friggin paddy wagon comes aorund the corner.. lights whole deal gave me a 6 point ticket for "driviving without reasonable consideration for others" or soemthing liek that anyways 6 points that would mean i lsot my liscence bu i didn tknow that till i got the letter in the mail wiht intent to prohibit my lisence or watever the heck their fancy name for takign it away is.. and by this time my date to fight it was logn passeds.. so i went to court and filed for an extension of appeal i got that then i got to goto traffic court.. so then my date for traffic court came.. i went then i didnt see the cop there but i saw his parter, anyways its my turn i get all ready and the partner sez that the cop (the on who wrote this ticker her parter) was called in for a last minute thing and oculdent make it.. so the judge said well normally if the cop that writes the ticket does not show up you get off BUT considerin i filed for an extension of appeal she would make a latter date. then that date comes. we go and each talk our parts my defence was pretty much what he gave me a ticket for wasnormally given to ppl who do liek hit and runs or soemthing.. all i did was pass on a double yellow.. and according to him i was speading, wich i was not. and got the judge to beleive me on that one. anyways i won.. i actually made that cop look like a FOOL it was one of the best moments of my life one of those cops that jsut get off on beeing a ***** type deal.. im sure it helped my mom is a lawyer and helped me otu a great deal though.. id swear there was almost applause after we were done haha ok enough abotu that i also saw lots of poeple tryign to get outa speeding tickets.. don't bother. half the ones the cops didnt even use a radar apparentrtly they have trained themselves to estimate what speed you are goin give or take 5 or 10Km or watever so your only chance pretty much to beat a speading ticket is if the cop does not show up...

Yeah, its called pacing you... Dont ask how I know. All I have to say is that I wouldnt run from a cop knowing how fast that heavy car gets up and goes...

Anyway, if you look at a ticket, theres a check box for how they clocked you. One of them is for pacing you.

By the way, that thing sounds pretty hard core. I wouldnt mind having one, but I think I would buy a Gtech Pro first .

Heres a cool article I found about it:

That is a pretty trick toy. I like the speedtrap location marking - I've been doing that mentally since I was 16 years old, but my poor brain's data banks have suffered much abuse over the years.

$200 is a pretty good deal. But I still drool over the Valentine and it's magical arrows...
