fair price for 84 se?

greetings forum group,

firstly wanted to say your discussion threads have been invaluable in helping me to decide to buy the 84 se i was looking at -thanks!

i know the car is worth whatever i want to pay but nonetheless i AM curious...it's an 84 se, 12a w/65K on it, no mods (as far as i can tell), very excellent condition, no rust but for it's colour.
i'm dropping $2000 (that's in canadian). can anyone here provide me w/a frame of reference. am i paying going rate?

also wanted to say that the compression numbers are all in the 8's. i know 6 is standard but what do you guys/girls think?

thanks again! more when it's really MINE!

Well the minuimum compression is in the 6's, 9.5 brand new so the 8's are great. The only thing that I am wondering about is an SE with a 12A? The SE's came with a 13B, so either they have a wrong badge on the car or they have the wrong engine in it. If it is a SE with a 13B in good condition I would pay up to 3000.00 USA. But if it is a 12A I would only pay 1750.00. Of course these numbers are for one in good condition inside and out. I would always make sure you bring a philips screwdriver and take out the storage bins and check for rust on the wheel wells. You will not be able to see if from the outside, This is an known problem with these cars. What year is the car?

Hey, buckaroo...

Pop the hood and take a look. If it's a SE it should have a big silver box on top of the engine with big letters carved into it, RE-EGI. If it has a circular blue air filter atop the engine, it's a 12A powered vehicle and possibly not a true SE. SE's have 14" wheels, not 13" like other 1st gens. Hopefully you are looking at an SE, but any 1st gen 7 is lots of fun...

GSL-SE??

Yeah, I would make sure it is a real "SE".. big difference between the 12 a and 13 b cars. Good luck with it if you buy it.
