why is my car running so stinkin' fast?

I took it out to lapeer dragway just outside Flint, MI the other week, and I ran these times:

R/T .966
60 ft 2.079
1/8 9.258
mph 80.74
1/4 14.155
mph 99.86

another run (slower ET, broke 100 mph though) went like so:
R/T 9.67
60 2.097
1/8 9.294
mph 80.82
1/4 14.179
mph 100.18

Now, I'm running a '90 TurboII with a J-spec S5 motor in it. All stock except for a ghetto 2.5" full turbo-back exhaust. BUT it's only running 5.5 psi (on a manual gauge) because of I think an electronic problem.

I've removed the spare tire, the rear sound deadening material (HEAVY crap), the whole A/C system, and the exhaust that's on it is a lot lighter than stock (although fairly sturdy). That's about it for weight removal.

Now, running low 14's with only 5.5 lbs of boost on an S5 turboII? Doesn't that seem a little faster than it SHOULD be? Especially at 100 mph.

Basically, my question is this.. is it possible that this motor is actually street ported? I have no record of it being so, but it just seems too fast for what it's running at.

in my experience with cars I've found cars run their greatest just before they blow up

hope thats not the case with yours, but that is weird that its that fast with only 5psi of boost. Maybe you should take a look and make sure your gauge is functioning properly.

Nah, that really sounds about right - TII's ain't slow by any stretch of the imagination. I'd double-check that boost gauge though - a leaky connection could be giving you a false reading, and you may be running more than you think.

I talked to a few people that raced rx's and they said the cars tend to run a lot faster than normal right before they die.

Thats prolly true, because most people turn the boost up without the proper fuel mods. So its fast, till it pops. With someone that is properly modding their car, they shouldn't have to worry.

A stock S5 should be running 7.5psi. Also, you're not stock, opening up exhaust like you have speeds things up substantially. From your mods I'd say the time/speed is in line (actually sounds like you could still decrease your time a bit). I think you're gauge must be off. Do you have a FCD? You may be running over fuel cut.

I'm gonna go out and buy a supra style wing, bolt it onto your car while you're asleep, put a big "HKS" sticker on the side of your car, then on the windshield, I'll put a big "VTEC" sticker, then I'll weld a coffee can to your exhaust tip.. and then after that I'll change all your valve covers to LED valve covers, and put some LED windshield wiper sprayers on for you, then go get some of that "cool chrome" crap that people put around their doorjambs and over their wheel wells in the ghetto, and put that all over your car... yeah..

oh and no I don't have an FCD for that very reason.. I don't want to blow my motor.. I'm happy running low 14's for now until I spend more money on it next winter..

you have the MPH for the same 13.7 i ran. you need to shift a little faster on the track... when my mechanic told me this i was like i'm shifting as fast possible. then he showed me.... i'm a learned man now. anyway practice makes perfect. low 14's are very good. i think you got a pretty good jspec

Fuel cut is worse than running lean. You'll only run slightly lean if you peak over 8.6psi (say 9psi), but you'll run massively lean repeatedly if fuel cut is hit. If you run over that point you need fuel mods. I honestly would have thought that you'd be beyond fuel cut already and needing fuel mods. Maybe the S5 wastegate is saving you...

Yeah well, I'm... at school now! Muhaha!

But like they said, I think fuel cut IS worse, because I hit it a good many times not realizing that it was bad (instead of using an FCD) and guess where my motor is.

I have to disagree. I think that it was a fun movie... but then again, I am easily amused by a piece of string.

I thought the races and the double clutching thing, and especially how they talk("he's just slingin' parts for harry man," "Yo dog, I know what he's slingin'")
was really really funny! It made it more enjayable!

I've seen this movie way too much

I know they had to do it, but I love how all the races last at least 3 minutes... that's one hell of a drag race.

Especially for those "10 second cars."
