BMW M5 Lemans Blue For Montego FD?
BMW M5 Lemans Blue For Montego FD?
IM planning to paint my FD which is currently factory Montego Blue. The color Im planning is BMW M5 Blue. Also, I'll only be painting the exterior since i have no money for the the engine bay and inner doors and insides of the car. What do you guys think? Do you think I could get away with it since the colors have the similar tone? I got a $900 quote for the whole exterior including 3layers of paint, clear coat and 4year warranty on the paint. Help me out with some guys. Thanks~
I work for BMW so I can maybe shed some light....
That paint is Speez, a german paint. That particular color/shade by another manufacturer like PPG, Dupont, Etc. will be slightly off in color or the color you would be expecting. It's an expensive paint and must be done properly.
The whole quote.....is that with you doing the prep work? You know, are you doing the taping and removal of moldings, etc.? That is way cheap and I think they might do a rush job on the paint work, even if it's just the outside......
My point is to make that color work in appearance like it is on the M, the base coats must be the correct color too like a light silver is put on before hand for example.....
What they want to do sand down your color just to roughen it up (not remove as much as they should) and then spray they're coats on......just some info.

one of my friends bought a 91 accord from some guy for like $800... he told her it just got a brand new paint job and gave her the reciept and warantee info... turns out it was from macco and not 4 days after she got the car (which was red when she bought it) we had a huge downpore for like 2 days... well the paint started to peel and melt away and the old faded black color started to shine through.... what a looker! needless to say she took it back to macco and they did a better job for free. still **** though
Maaco does offer different price levels, probably all the same application with a longer warranty.
Got to be careful with clearcoats. If they don't use the right gun and application, you'll get waves. It will look as if the car had horrible body work done.
Be careful who you pick. Take a look at some cars, if possible, that a particular shop painted. A shop in Central Jersey has done coupes, a GT40, classic cars, etc. and many custom applications. The clearcoat is like glass. They aren't cheap!
As stated above "Save your money...You'll be glad you did".
