Why do most of you drag race with your RX-7?

Just wondering.. the RX-7 isnt great in straight line performance. Seeing as to how it was made for road racing. If you wanted to drag, you should have gotten a different car. Just curious because I am torn between deciding if I even need an RX-7, not like I road race or anything.

The 7's a great car to drag race. Light weight and High horsepower(400+) makes for a car that will run 11's

If all you are into is drag racing, sure, there are MANY other cars that are easier and cheaper to modify for dragging than an FD. If drag racing is your thing, then unless you "just want" an FD, then I wouldn't recommend one just for that purpose.

I don't drag my car at all, seems boring to me. Hopefully next year I'll do some track events, but we'll see.

However, if you want a car to drive around town and have everyone clock'n you, then an FD is *the* vehicle to have (for under $80,000 USD that is).

Even if I had 80,000 dollars I wouldnt buy a 80,000 car I would have still bought the FD. You know why? because it still looks way better than all of those 80,000 cars and it out performs IN MY OPINION than any 80,000 sports car. This car should have had a price tag in the 80,000 range because you can't get a racing package as good as this man, FD RULES!!!!!!!!!

Look at the Gt series, they use standing starts. They drag race until the first corner..Performance is performance...its just better to turn at the end of the drag race .

I recently starting drag racing, I went twice and cant get enough. I will be going at least monthly, maybe every other week. For me its a blast, I'm in my car, racing another car (I race in both street and compact), the crowd is watching, the engine is reving and its me against a V8 usually........

There are NO excuses, NO cops, no chance of huring someone....

But wait.....your asking why I do it in a FD....

This car is F*cking awesome. I may not be able to beat every car I race, but I can guarantee 2 things. 1) I beat most, 2) I look better than all the other cars.

I guess the same reason the track is stuffed with not-so-straight line performance cars. People just want to have a good time and see what they can get out of thier cars... And I don't think RX-7's are THAT bad in straight line....... Maybe not 1/4 mile lines... But a 5 or 6 mile stretch? Come on now!!!!

who said the sport was who can get the cheapest speed. I have yet to see a drag strip with a money based time correction or anything of the sort. It is about driver enjoyment and having fun.
just my $0.02

you're talking about ari yallon. he has one quick FD. he's down in the low 9's now in the 1/4 mile. i love it when i get into a domestic vs import drag racing arguement. and all i have to do is bring up ari and they cant say much afterwards

Heh.. well I think to myself, Ok I want the car for the looks, but I dont think I can justify its looks for the reliability factor.

Then don't get one. The FD is meant as an all around great sports car... for a reasonable price. Theres no such thing as a car with no trade offs. You want WORLD CLASS handling? WORLDCLASS power? WORLDCLASS LOOKS? AND WORLDCLASS reliability? Great, I hope you also have a WORLD CLASS bank account to spend 110k on a Porsche turbo, because if not, the FD will do at least one of the following to whatever else you buy:

1. Smoke it. (mustang, camaro)
2. Roll away from it at the track like its nailed to the road. (supra)
3. Look much better that it does. (most anything 'cept a 355))
4. Cost 30-70k less. (Z06, viper)
5. Spend less time in the shop (Lotus)

Pick your poison.

Because we can.

Road Racing is Waaayyy more fun but dragging is the best way to humble those domestic owners.

It all depends on what you like, i like drag racing because its easy to get into, i dont have to have millions of rules to follow. Its fun and i love speeding. Plus the risk of my car meeting the wall or another car is a lot less then track racing. Not saying that its not possible, but just less likely.

When you talk to the average "Joe"..
They dont ask.. "hey what laptimes are you
running at Summit, Road atlanta and etc"
THey ask what you run in the 1/4mile..

Not to say that 1/4 runs are the holy grail. but
it is a way to see if your car is runnign properly
and optimally. And more importantly.. IF
you are DRIVING your car to its potential....

Hell its fun to..
