SR16VE (to 2.2L) swap being considered

I had another thread going but it got locked instead of moved. I already messaged the mod about it. hopefully it will show up and be useful.

http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.ph...6&page=2&pp=15

so let me just start from the end of that one.

I've already got one high revving N/A sr motor in my G20 that I track.
I'm building up another one to be a BEAST of a 4banger N/A.
It needs a home that is RWD.
That is NOT a convertable (sorry, i hate them with a passion. nothing personal to the s2000 crew or miata kids, i just don't roll that way.)

I became obsessed with the FD when my friend bought one back in '01. The biggest thing I see on here is that these cars can't be daily drivers. My track cars are cars that get driven to the track, beat the hell up, and then driven back. and driven to the grociery store. it's bundles of fun.

i'd also like to quick thank everyone in the old thread who had constructive input. It's helped a lot, and I am still looking at other chassis to drop the motor and tranny into. I just love the FD, and I love the high revs of an NA engine. Turn two passions into one.

with what I have just laying around from my past two engine build-ups it's not too bad to build up this beast I have planned. Getting an S15 6speed tranny isn't too bad either. With the 3 ECU's I have laying around my garage getting one turned into a stand-alone wouldn't be the first time I'd have it done. I'm budgeting 3k for the mounting of the motor and tranny into the shell. It may seem high, but things always happen.

Doing this to an AE86 seems a little to Initial D to me. I won't knock that amazing show or equally amazing car, but... a panda trueno fits into the same bubble as why I won't use a 240sx. I don't need 16 year old kids with bumblebee cans harassing me. The class of an FD can't be matched by an un-educated crowd.

I'm a momentum driver looking for a chassis that will not draw negative attention. That's what it really comes down to. I have been considering leaving the FD a rotary for a year and having the new motor in one of the G's, just because... it's a f*cking rx7. but this motor is going to need a home, and I'm going to give it one.

any constructive comments positive or negative welcome, as long as it's constructive and not insulting.

Nice idea,I like it. I also love FD's but also completely understand why many convert to other engines. My only suggestion is to stick with a engine that you can readily buy a mounting kit for from Grannys. Making mounts and moving crossmembers is a real PITA and time consuming. I see many guys here with lots of ambition tackle swaps with less common engines and usually it takes sooo long and so much money they give up or run out of time/money. If you stick with a engine thats a common swap you can simply buy the mounts and be well on your way. Also if you get stuck others can help you. The bottom line is this..do you want it up and running in 2 or 3 months or 2+ years?

I just bought an AE86 for 450$. I feel so ashamed. but... I can bolt in engine and tranny with a kit. custom, your one message has altered my course of action. but because it is so damn cheap, I'm still in the market for an FD. WTF am I going to do with 3 race cars?

oh yeah, 1986 black, sh*t engine and tranny. was 5 miles away. trailered it to my garage where it sits. I have mixed feelings. going to pull and toss engine and tranny saturday. I have mixed feelings. This is way too Initial D for my interests. a black 86 with a high revving N/A. I am so cliche'. and I'm looking to buy an FD as well. This couldn't be worse. I feel 14 all over again. well I guess this thread can die now. Good-bye N/A FD. Looks like you're staying rooted as a 13b. next to your japanese brethren. I deserve all the crap I'm going to get.
