Exclamation Steering wheel removed, and now my FC won't start?

If it helps at all, I have an '88 convertible. I ordered an aftermarket steering wheel to replace my old worn out Mazda one. I figured "Eh, I don't have airbags anyways, might as well get a cool aftermarket one instead of a Mazda one". So I took off the old steering wheel, and put my new one on. I didn't wire up the horn because I just wanted to test it out and see if it steered alright. So when I turned the key...the car just didn't start. I don't think it was flooded, because it didn't turn over at all. Battery terminals are fine, and the battery is fine as well because the lights, stereo, etc. all work. It is raining out, and my car is outside, so I haven't really had a chance to look at the starter yet. However, it was starting 100% fine even 10 minutes before this, and I really don't think it's a coincidence. Is there anything involved with the steering wheel/steering column that would prevent the car from starting?

As far as I know it should run without the steering wheel! I'd check the starter first then go from there. Did you touch anything besides the steering wheel?

if you got power from the key and it turns the engine over then it is not associated with anything that you did.
